Dr. Joel I. Sorger

Beacon Orthopedics handles all of Dr. Sorger's communications but even though they request my email address on all forms, they only communicate via phone which had been an insurmountable problem for me because I am hearing impaired. and can't communicate on the phone. Even when I fill out forms such as pre-appointment forms will not send because my one and only phone number is determined invalid. That being the case I have resorted to having my son converse with Beacon and email their response to me. I thought the problem was solved a couple of days ago when a form that would allow me to communicate on like was emailed to me so I filled it out and sent it but attempts to communicate via the Ortho Alliance patient portal have failed because my name filled in as requested with no space between first and last name is determined to be invalid which brings me to the surgery to remove a lump below my left knee that was performed on 5-19-23. When the bandages were removed it looked like the… lump was still there but I was assured that it was just swelling that would go away. Now, five weeks after surgery the lump is still there the only difference being that it has a scar down the center of it. All this is considered a one-star option is appropriate.

Dr. Sorger was my last hope. Whatever his personality, skillset, and regardless of his reputation and his solution for fixing my unique mobility issues, I had to deal with it. I also had to deal with him. After reading his mixed reviews online, just to be safe, I braced myself for the worst upon my initial consultation. My first surgeon in the same practice told me I was beyond his scope of comfort. I respect this doctor so much for telling me that. My Issue: I needed two total knee replacements--very common now as an aging baby boomer--but my entire life I have been extremely knock-kneed. Imagine a walking "X" and the crosspoints are my knees. I could never put my feet together, and on the day I met Dr. Sorger, the closest I could get them was 22 inches. Yes, strangers stared and even commented to me my whole life..."What's going on with those legs?" was a common inquiry. (If that was you, don't say that to strangers. It's quite unkind.) When I met Dr. Sorger, I was… immediately surprised what a small frame he has. I am always the shortest guy in every group, but not with Dr. Sorger. Very quickly we were eye-to-eye in more ways than one. Some folks online implied that he was brusk. I have never gotten that from him. To the point--yes--but he is also kind, relaxed, and confident. As he told me my issues will all be fixed with total knee replacements, and he was not in any way perplexed by my legs, I literally cried in front of him. As I write this review, both knees have been replaced. I now have normal legs...II ... two upper caser letter I's. In all of my visits with Joel Sorger, I have only gotten a gracious and brillant man in every exchange. I compliment him each time I see him out of gratitude, and he politely deflects each statment with grace. Humble, capable, sympathetic, and yes "short and sweet" are all traits of this extemely busy man. How lucky we are to have Joel Sorger in Cincinnati.

I was one of Dr. Sorger's first cancer patients over almost 20 years ago. This man saved my life. I had a chondroblastic osteosarcoma in my lower right leg. When he explained the surgery that he was planning to perform, I was comforted by his confidence and experience. What I had was pretty rare, and I feel so fortunate that he was based here in Cincinnati and that I didn't have to travel to receive this specialized surgery. I am forever grateful to him. He is truly one of my heroes.

This quack damaged my femoral nerve during hip replacement. Stay AWAY!!!!

Dr. Sorger, Is a very kind and understanding doctor. I had hip replacement the work he did was great the recovery was quick. Very small amount of pain. Wonderful doctor the best. judy barger

Wouldn’t recommend or trust this surgeon at all. Very unprofessional and dry warming appearance. I was operated on the WRONG LEG by him and never was told sorry or apology given to my family.

He was ready to operate on my daughter without an MRI. From a second opinion and MRI, we were able to find out she did not need a surgery at all. Extremely rude, incompetent doctor.

I just had a knee arthroscopy done by Dr. Sorger. The experience went very well. Dr. Sorger and the medical team was very caring and nice. He is informational. I would go back to him if I ever need another surgery and I would recommend him to anyone.

My son was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at the age of 10 1/2. He received all of his treaments and surgery through Riley Hospital & IU Medical Center. His care has always been excellent until now at the age of 30 & living in Cincinnati and being treated by Dr. Sorger. His lack of care & interest in him is appalling! I would not recommend him to anyone! We are seeking treatment from someone who will take the time to talk with us and show some concern! Dr. Sorger if I ever get the chance to meet you, I will definitely make sure you understand how you have treated & effect my son & our family!
