Dr. John William Desalvo

It was my first time seeing Dr. Desalvo, he entered the room without knocking, then proceeded to jump into the conversation without any introduction. He explained that I need a procedure or I am going to die, in those words, and then told me that his office would call me to schedule the procedure. We spent approximately 6 uncomfortable minutes speaking with each other. I appreciate honesty and am fine with people being straightforward with me, but this felt like a pretty heavy topic to breeze through so quickly, and it felt cruel to give me this information and then not give me any information about when my appointment would be, or when to expect a follow up call, or anything. I guess I'll sit by my phone and hope that I don't die in the meantime?

I saw Dr Desalvo one time for an annual check up since my regular OB was booked. When I say he was "in and out", I mean he was IN AND OUT. We didn't really talk. He just kind of looked at my lady parts and left. His bedside manner isn't the best.

When I disagreed with Dr Desalvo and expressed that I did not want a scheduled induction he replied, "so you want your baby to die?". I was appalled and disgusted by this man who I entrusted with mine and my baby's care. His manipulative and bullying tactics were horribly unprofessional. Seek out a physician who is respectful. This isn't your guy. (I had no preexisting conditions, baby and I were healthy, and I delivered a healthy babe the following day when he was ready to arrive).

Dr. Desalvo is awesome!! Kind and professional in every way possible!!

He missed a 10cm endo cyst on my ovary which led to my infertility (I did get pregnant though IVF but this is very expensive and an emotional roller coaster). I had told him in a well woman exam that my periods were getting heavy and painful and asked him if it could be diet related. He said no and did his exam and said everything was good. The doctor who found it told me he should have been able to feel it at my appt 2 weeks before. So I would not recommend this doctor. I wish I could give him zero stars.

Dr. DeSalvo came highly recommended. He was fine for annual exams but once I suffered from an early miscarriage, I felt ignored. During the initial exam, as soon as he found I was pregnant he was quick to let me know I had a high chance of a Down Syndrome baby. He is definitely honest and informative but his bedside manner needs some work. I only heard directly from him during my initial exam. After that, only heard from his nursing staff. I did not feel he was compassionate nor did he walk me through the pain of a miscarriage. A follow up appointment was not scheduled either. I was told if I felt I needed to see him, I could. Will definitely be scheduling a follow up but not with him. I will be changing doctors.

This practice proved to be very unprofessional and gave off the feeling of a 'good ole boys club' amongst the staff. The individual who does the scheduling is rude and preemptive with her comments I.e. When I called to schedule (as a new client) she began lecturing me about the restriction of switching to a different gender doctor... I reminded her I was a new client and haven't seen a doctor yet. She then continued with her snarky attitude and proceeded to give me the wrong appt time causing me to show up and get told that I wouldn't be seen until the afternoon bc I failed to show up on time. Upon telling the front office of this mishap with said Lisa, they advised me they continuously have issues with her and scheduling and to inform my Dr. I blew it off dismissing it as a bad day on her behalf; I was wrong. I met with Dr. Desalvo and everything went seemingly fine until I left a message for the nurse to submit my prescription for prenatals ( per her instruction bc they only give… you samples and want you to c/b to see which ones work better for you) and so I did, never heard back from her. I left a message with the FMLA desk to f/u on a mishap in my ppwk and then next correspondence I hear from the office is that I am withdrawn from further care bc 'my dr. Was made aware of the abusive language I was using towards staff.' This came as a complete shock as the only person who I had any words with that weren't kosher was said Lisa ( who apparently handles scheduling AND FMLA ppwk) and remember I had left a VM for her to c/b due to a misunderstanding in how my FMLA ppwk as to be submitted? So at the end of the day I voiced my concerns to Wendy( an administrative supervisor ) and Cindy; never heard back from either of them. I would not recommend this demeaning/ horrible experience on anyone. It caused me and my fiancé undue stress. I was able to get in with MoM Doc who has more locations/ guaranteed same day appts/ and friendly/competent staff. Best wishes and good luck!

I have been a patient of Dr. DeSalvo's for four years. My initial appointment with him was incredible, and the next couple of annual exams were the same. I was impressed by a doctor who demonstrated that he was steeped in current medical research, and who took the time to listen and respond to my concerns. Our relationship changed during 2013, when my husband and I began to try for children. Three pregnancy losses in one year (at 6 weeks, 11 weeks, and 5 weeks), and I am completely disenchanted with Dr. DeSalvo's approach. He has become cold and uncompassionate, making crude statements such as: "Youâ??re 35. All of your good eggs are gone and now weâ??re dealing with whatâ??s left." It is apparent that Dr. DeSalvo struggles when a patient does not have immediate success in carrying a pregnancy to term. After my second loss he claimed that I was diabetic, which was the reason for the loss. (Tests prior to and after the loss, administered through my family practice… doctor, show otherwise. I am not diabetic.) After my third loss he failed to inquire about the incident during an appointment that I made solely for that reason, per his nurse's orders. His words during that appointment were: â??Thereâ??s nothing more that can be done for you.â?? I can no longer refer Dr. DeSalvo as I once did, and I look forward to finding a more compassionate doctor in the Phoenix-metro area.

When I got pregnant my mother-in-law recommended me to have Him as my obgyn. Which I do not regret one bit! He is an amazing obgyn Sadly he wasn't able to deliver my baby so his assistant (i think it was ,his back up) Erica A Montes had to deliver wich I was nervous because I had never me or seen her before but she was amazing! She is Kind! So I say 5 stars to Dr. Montes & Dr. Desalvo ! I recommend Dr. Desalvo to any one looking for a good obgyn!
