Dr. J Martin Leland, MD

I had a skiing accident and UH was my primary care hospital so I was referred to Dr. Leland. Yikes. Let me be upfront and say at the time of my appointment I was uninsured, waiting for my healthcare.gov insurance to kick in. Dr. Leland couldn’t have cared less about me as a patient as a result if he tried. My fiancé and I waited 45 minutes in the examination room before his student came in and tried to bend my knee and then walked out, didn’t say anything else. After 25 more minutes, Dr. Leland saunters in and says “Yikes. This is a very serious injury. You tore your ACL and MCL completely. But since you’re self pay I would bankrupt you if I did your surgery. I mean, I charge 50,000$ for it so... your best bet is to put on a brace and go to PT and work on that stiffness okay. Call the office when you have insurance. The nurse will be back to fit you for the brace.” And walked out. Turns out the brace would have cost me 1500$ out of pocket so I turned it down and just left. Got a… consult at the Crystal Clinic with Daniel Myers. Turns out I didn’t even tear my ACL, I tore my MCL and fractured my tibial spine. Dr. Myers had me on the schedule for surgery the following week when I was insured, and it only was billed as 8000$!! I DO NOT recommend this very rude and obviously incompetent doctor Leland!!! Go to the Crystal Clinic or anywhere else!

After seeing about 4-5 other doctors for extreme shoulder pain, Dr. Leland was the first doctor that FINALLY listened to me! Thank you so much Dr. Leland!!

If you can get past his arrogance and eyelash extensions, he really is a good doctor. He knows his stuff. I just wish he had better bedside manner.

I had rotator cuff and bicep repair surgery with Dr. Leland 12 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. He is the best! My friends had me scared about the recovery - but I never took one pain pill, I only used over the counter Advil and used the ice machine they gave me all the time (plus I did my physical therapy exercises at home on a regular basis). Dr. Leland was able to fit me in immediately for my surgery, and I couldn't be happier with my recovery. I started playing golf again a few weeks ago - and I am way ahead of where I thought I would be in recovery. I recommend Dr. Leland to anyone who has bicep or rotator cuff issues! I had a very extreme shoulder tear that would have needed a shoulder replacement had it not been for Dr. Leland. He was able to repair my shoulder and now I have full use of my shoulder! He patiently explained in detail and with easy to understand terms the problem, the procedure, and the rehab needed. He should be the only doctor you go to when you have any ortho work needed. You'll be made to feel as if a friend is treating you!

Dr. Leland was fantastic, from first consultation to final discharge visit. He presented all facts in layman's terms, and really allowed both myself and my family to be involved in all aspects of my eventual surgery and recovery process. He never pushed his opinions on us, and was so very helpful for a surgery that was anything but common. He made me feel like an individual rather than just another patient, and spent time understanding my scenario and what I was hoping to gain/recover. He was involved and available throughout my 5+ month recovery, and was professional, pleasant and informative throughout. Would highly recommend.

I have seen numerous Sports doctors, but none have been as thorough and understanding as Dr. Leland! He is fantastic and I will send all of my family and friends with Orthopaedic injuries to him!

I had meniscus surgery on a Thursday and was able to return to work on Monday and had full range of motion in less than 2 weeks following his post op instructions. He was patient and answered all my question. His staff is very friendly and caring. Will definitely return for any future joint or muscle issues.

Dr. Leland took the time to explain what options I had. When surgery was decided upon, he explained what he would do and what may happen as a result. I was totally prepared.
