My daughter had a very complicated wrist surgery in a CHicago hospital and was told we could follow up with a local Dr so we did not have to continue making a 3 hour trip to CHicago .Dr Mahoney was super nice the first visit when everything was going smoothly and he basically did not have to do anything but get paid. After a few weeks there was no progress with physical therapy and my daughter was having a lot of pain and then he was just done !, he did not want to be bothered with her problems, no explanation for what he thought might be going on, he was rude, uncaring and his entire personality changed towards us. I thought the nurses were equally rude and no help what so ever He told us to go back to the surgeon who did the surgery which I totally agreed we needed to do but it was the way he handled it, He could not be bothered and seemed to care less.

I, too, wish I had read the comments for this doctor before making an appointment. If I had I would not now be sending Midwest Orthopaedic a check. I, like many others, have arthritis. One Saturday morning I woke up to my right hand and forearm swelled to twice their normal size. I was unable to dress myself. I also must add that I have cysts on both hands near my wrists. By Monday I wasn't much better so I made an appointment for Thursday to see Dr. Mahoney. Upon paying the bill it now sounds as though I have buyer's remorse. I have no problem paying for competent medical care. I do, however, have a problem paying a doctor to comment on the guy mowing the grass outside his office window. Dr. Mahoney may well be an okay doctor when dealing with children and their mothers. As for me, it was a total waste of time and money.

I injured my pinky and was told I didn't need an x-ray but he could do one that day and call me with the results or I could not have one and call back if I had continued to experience pain after two weeks. He spent two minutes in the exam room that day and I paid forty bucks. I did continue to experience pain after two weeks, so I called back as suggested and no one would order me an x ray because he didn't list what he had told me in his office note. The nurse Kathy wanted to charge me for another visit. I tried to explain to them what he had told me and was treated with very curtly. She said she would get back with me. I called the nurse Kathy a few minutes after I missed her call on Thursday and was unable to reach her so left a message for her to return my call. No problem. No one ever returned my call. After waiting for a return call for five days, I called and got an x ray order but was told I wound not get my results called to me. I believe this is a case of being treated… rudely because I didn't make an appointment as the nurse had suggested, which made her have to actually ask him a question. I'm assuming she portrayed me as a irate patient, which I was not at all. Disgusted with the care and the treatment from this office. As a RN myself I never treat people this rudely. You should go here if you want to be treated like less than human.

Dr Mahoney did not fuse my finger tip knuckle as described in consults and during my surgery to remove a severed tendon and fuse my knuckle, decided my knuckle looked( just to good to fuse ) and instead put in a pin that had to later be pulled out and eventually had to have another surgery to do what he wouldn't. I also must mention the difficulty of getting my records to a competitors office for my new surgeon. Thumbs down on this doctor and the office manager!

Excellent physician, but my issue is with Midwest Orthopedic in general and not the surgeon as I have heard he is quite excellent. If you have a break but not a referral (like if you go through Urgent Care), one gets to wait 1 week to 10 days to get in. During that time, drink whiskey, swear, or get addicted to pain meds while you wait to get in. They need to hire more docs or find a way to treat breaks within the same week, in my opinion. Right now I'm doping up on Motrin and crying while I wait for my time in the office. I just hope my break doesn't heal crooked before I get into the office. And I have good insurance too.

Well, I wish I would of read the comments for this doctor prior to making an appointment. I feel this doctor needs to look into a different line of work. I got the feeling he was being bothered and I know he misdiagnosed me. When I questioned how can I have the suppose diagnosis with these other symptoms, he got upset and quickly ended our visit. Today, I feel even worse than I did prior to my visit with him and there is no way I'll ever step foot in that facility again! Poor poor example of a doctor. My back ground for 12 years was working for many surgeon's and I never saw this kind of service in any of them.
