Dr. John M. Sayles, MD

Fourteen years after Dr. Sayles removed my colon and rectum, I couldn't be more pleased with him! So easy to talk to and great at his craft.

He lived up to his reputation of being thoughtful, knowledgeable, kind, and excellent medical care.

Excellent doctor.

Each visit there is more than an hour wait time from scheduled appointment.

Very pleased with this good doctor and highly recommend him.

Although Dr. Sayles may have a nice vocabulary and neatly pressed suit ready for his day-to-day surgery routine, I strongly feel as though he has made a vital mistake and misjudgment when it comes to a recent surgery my mother had. Before going into surgery, while she was medicated, Dr. Sayles met with us in the holding room and discussed with us that surgery may not even occur, nor had he even reviewed the cat scan information sent over to his office weeks prior to the scheduled surgery. This not only put our entire family in a state of concern but also made us feel as though Dr. Sayles had no business even operating on my mother. Almost like taking a final exam without even knowing the subject. With a huge uneasy feeling we walked away from my mother as she was escorted down the hall to "maybe" perform surgery. After 2 hours (the surgery was allotted a time frame of about 4-6 hours) we were approached in the waiting area by Dr. Sayles. Extremely alarmed, as it had only been 2… hours since she had been back for surgery, Dr. Sayles greeted us. He explained that he had not seen anything wrong and was not going to perform surgery as it was in my mothers best interest. After many questions and wondering, he still had no answer for us and had a somewhat cold demeanor about himself. I felt as though we, or more so my mother, were just another number in is daily "lets play surgeon" role. However, we took his advice, after all he is a "doctor", and said our prayers. Even though the surgery was not fully completed, Dr. Sayles did enter into my mothers body and attempted to examine the area in need, which would require pain and recovery time post "surgery." She was down for at least two weeks in recovery, including time away from work, struggling with pain, and the medical bills that still continued to follow, even without proper and complete instruction from her GI specialist. After a month of following Dr. Sayles advice, my mother is now back in with her specialist, once again in extreme pain. An emergency cat scan is ordered as well as blood work. After getting the results back, her condition is not only still there, but has worsened. We are completely dissatisfied with the call that Dr. Sayles made. I feel as though he not only took my mothers surgery very lightly but also did not follow through with his duties as a surgeon. My trust in him as a doctor is near nothing and I would never again have my mother on his operating table-or anyone I care about for that matter. I am completely appalled at what he considered to be a good judgment call on her condition considering a cat scan cannot be debated. I often wonder if he even reviews his patients cases before putting them under the knife. Hopefully there are not other victims that have or will fall prey to such inadequacies. If I could give "0" stars I most definitely would.

Dr. Sayles came to my rescue after 3 yrs of Specialists that just didn't take that extra step to diagnose "carcinoid cancer" in my intestines. A slow growing cancer found normally in autopsy only. He made the choice to open me up and explore a bulge hidden behind my appendix. The tumor, larger than a golf ball told it's own story as it was lodged and blocking my intestines causing severe pain and eventually preventing me from living any type of normal life as I lay in a fetal position several times through day and night everyday. The tumor told it's own story...so slow growing, it had been there over 3 yrs at least and was stage 3b...the last stage before terminal for Carcinoid cancer. Having to remove my appendix, 2ft of intestine/ colon and of course the tumor. He gave me my life back literally. Having had several minor surgeries since and performing surgery once again soon for skin cancer (not his particular field) but because he is the surgeon I trust with my life. A very… compassionate, professional, perfectionist, spot on Doctor that you just don't find these days. I went through MANY and was fortunate enough to meet him in the ER on one of my many visits that did NOT consider sending me home with pain meds but performed emergency surgery not knowing if he'd find anything but listening to the history I provided. Words cannot express how I feel about this man and the gratitude I have knowing real Drs. still exist. Thank you for being you Dr. Sayles and continuing to be there for me. Still carcinoid cancer free, no visible scaring but recently diagnosed with some skin cancer by Mid Atlantic Dermatology (had removed) and returned within a week. Only wanting more money to repeat surgery, I returned to the surgeon I knew would focus on getting rid of it instead of the money for doing so. Once again, he is there for me! I wouldn't recommend ANY other surgeon. Staff and offices rated far above the best along with Dr John Sayles.

Dr. Sayles is a caring, patient, intelligent doctor. He has operated on me 3 times. The first was for a colon resection due to Crohn's Disease. I met Dr. Sayles in the hospital and he explained what to expect, and made me feel very confident in his abilities. My recovery was great.I then required emergency surgery for an intestinal perforation (unrelated to Crohn's Disease). I was EXTREMELY lucky that Dr. Sayles was on call that day. As soon as he entered my ER room, I knew that everything would work out - I needed a temporary illeostomy, so I required a third surgery for the reversal. He did an excellent job. I hope I never need another surgery, but if I do, Dr. Sayles is my doctor.
