Read a thorough review of Dr. Jonathan Bolton of NM on the web. For a guy who acts like a high class British gentleman, we can see his professional skills and trustworthiness are lacking. As we can see, he succeeds in dressing well, presenting himself well and those small social cues that make him appear social and even charming. Yet, when we look at his actions, were to test him on his knowledge of deeper phenomenon, and see his clinical experience, it is ultimately lacking. In crisis situations I have seen and heard about, he puts his own interest before the patient or person in question. He does not stand up for what is right, and instead only cares about self-protection. I would also wonder why he left the sanctuary of upper-crust Oxford and Cambridge circles to go to blue-collar areas like Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Providence and now Albuquerque. Is there a reason why he let?

There are better doctors in the New Mexico Area. I met Dr. Bolton some years ago in a crisis. There is a big difference between the persona he gives off in public and his private opinions that he writes of patients. We see other reviews show that he is well-dressed, handsome, has charming British politeness, uses beautiful, articulate words but ultimately does not prove a good psychiatrist. I agree with these opinions. Actions speak louder than words. Doctor Bolton did not follow through on some key promises he made, his handshake was not honored, and I suspect there are personal reasons why he moved to the US from England's posh Oxford-Cambridge crowd. Deep down inside, his clinical expertise was deemed by others as "deficient" or "lacking". His trust-building techniques, etc. hide a deeper attitude of condescension. Ultimately, he worked in what was in his best interest, instead of doing what is in the patients' best interest. If I had to again, I would refuse to… work with him and instead work with someone with less charm but more expertise and, above all, more caring for patients in a tough situation. If the roles were reversed, and he was in a tough situation with an authority figure, I am positive his politeness would vanish.

At the end of the day, Jonathan Bolton is a man we often trust, but ultimately lets us down, especially in times of crisis.. Do a thorough review on the web, etc. of what other people say. He dresses well, is punctual, uses upper class British politeness, has studied trust building techniques, but ultimately is concealing some other poor things about his professionalism and persona. Many people have commented that despite doing a great presentation, he is ultimately lacking in thorough medical knowledge, clinical experience and ultimately empathy for the patient's viewpoints and concerns. Patient welfare is not his first priority. I myself would steer clear of this person if I saw him again, or refuse to work with him again. He did not keep his explicit promises and instead structured paperwork to free him of liability in case something went wrong. I also wonder why a man who did his undergraduate at Cambridge University would move to the US and attend a much lower… ranked medical school. I have never seen that happen with other Oxford, Cambridge, etc. graduates.

Most of the other reviewers have it correct: Dr. Jonathan Bolton has a great exterior, but it is a facade. He does not always act in the best interest of the client. He is very meticulous, efficient and careful, but ultimately is lacking in the best judgement and consideration of the people he is supposed to be caring for. I understand that psychiatry deals with people with problems, but there have been enough comments here to show that we can find more trustworthy practitioners elsewhere. I hope he reads this and learns from it.

This doctor isn’t as bad as some of the reviews say. He’s ok if you don’t have a problem that needs much attention. But if you are in a crisis, and don’t have a therapist or other support, hes probably not the best person for you to see.

After lengthy "treatment" with this provider, I have come to the conclusion that he has not only failed to provide help, but instead, he has actually caused great harm. In fact, it has taken several years to even begin to undo the damage and rebuild my life. Resist falling for the illusion as I did: yes, Dr. Bolton is always sharply dressed, charmingly polite, and speaks beautiful words. However, his actions reveal low ethical standards, absence of integrity, and an alarming deficit in clinical knowledge. I understand now that behind the smoke and mirrors lies an man who refuses to acknowledge his duties in the physician-patient agreement, lacks insight into how his treatment decisions affect patients, makes light of the duties that all physicians swear to uphold, will deny everything when questioned, and wrongly assigns blame to protect his career and medical license. Your experience may be different, but if you have a hint of doubt, I urge you to trust your instinct and to seek… a second opinion elsewhere.

Dr Bolton saw me over an extended period. I am a health care professional and was going through an extremely stressful and painful period in my life. I am not an easy patient. I am demanding, opinionated and educated , often challenging every suggestion. This Dr was a SAINT!!!! Kind, empathetic and professional no matter how much I tested his patience. I have finally..now 2 yrs.. been off the sleep Benzodiazepine I had been on for 26 years, following a stroke. He tried so hard, to no avail, to convince me that this was what was causing me such destruction. He was SO RIGHT!!! I am NOW once again the woman I was 26 years ago. Highly functioning, focused, rational, organized. I can look back, and see with clarity and immense sadness and regret, what happened, and how I negatively impacted the lives of those around me. If only........ So please.....take what this exceedingly talented, experienced and compassionate man offers you in the spirit he offers it. You WILL benefit from it.

I didn't like this doctor very much. I found his personality two-faced. Hopefully, other's can have more positive experiences.

I agree with this other anonymous poster. In my own opinion (from my experience), Dr. Bolton is terrible at being a professional. He lets his own insecurities drive his practice and diagnosis. When I gave Dr. Bolton's report to another, more experienced psychiatrist, this other psychiatrist definitely suspected Dr. Bolton was under the influence of his employers, not his own professional or personal moral code. Whats more, Dr. Bolton will try to avoid you once he has seen you. If you question him about why he made his particular, over-exaggerated diagnoses, he will avoid you and deny any interaction. Is this really somebody you want to trust with so intimate an aspect of you as your health?Normally, I would reveal my identity so people with questions could come and talk to me. But, I'm afraid that Dr. Bolton or the people he was working for will do things to try and deter me (like try and make up a false excuse for a slander/libel suit).I will say to my defense that these are… only my opinions; he may be an excellent Dr. for other patients. But, in my own opinion, from my own personal experience, to the truest of my ability of determining accuracy, I would definitely be careful before trusting him with any information.
