Dr. Jorge Alberto Lagares-Garcia, MD

My daughter in law was diagnosed with colon cancer. Through a family member in Charleston, SC we knew about Dr Jorge Lagares and were able to learn about his extensive experience and excellent port-operative results. For this reason we decided to make a trip from FL to meet with him. Since our first appointment, Dr. Lagares was amazing. He took enough time to review her medical records and to explain the best choices she had. At all time, he wanted to be sure that we understand his explanation. After this great experience meeting Dr Lagares, she decided to proceed with colon-rectal surgery with him. We needed to move to Charleston for a whole month and of course it was kind of uncomfortable, but it was much more important the great confidence she felt by choosing Dr Lagares for the surgery. It was an amazing experience and the nurses and everyone at Roper St Francis Hospital were so unbelievable tender and loving. They all showed their concerns to make my daughter in law comfortable at… all times. After I see the full recovery of my daughter in law, I have no doubt to recommend Dr Jorge Lagares for anyone that will need a colon-rectal surgery.

I feel neglected in surgery aftercare. I'm not even sure if the staff let Dr. know what my problems were until too late. Phone calls to the office were not returned right away, even when I complained of severe abdominal pain. I complained for weeks and finally ended up with an abdominal infection. I felt like I was being used as an experiment in surgery and testing techniques to see what does not work. I have suffered in pain and feel neglected. The doctor can only be as good as his staff will let him be. However I do feel he does not care are well, or he would do something about the staff.

After performing a colon resection on me, Dr. Legares then refused to see me after several follow up visits citing missed appointments as the reason. I NEVER missed an appointment. I finally diagnosed my FOUR years of persistent diarrhea as C Diff and had that self diagnosis confirmed by the lab. I then went to EMORY for treatment. I have spent the last three years trying to regain my health. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. The letter he wrote to me ‘firing’ me as a patient is stunning. I gave copies to my other physicians and the head of Roper Hospital.

A doctor who takes time with me, remembers past conversations, has a great bedside manner, and shows he cares. Love him.

Not only was he extremely rude, but I was worse after I got out of the hospital than going in. Did NOT fix my issue AT ALL. Just gave me a shot of morphine, some nausea medicine and 2 salines. The problem was that if I ate I would either puke it up or get diarrhea. After they forced me to leave the hospital because there was no "criteria" to put me the hospital (you mean nutrition deficiencies don't count?), I was finally given the glass of water that they said I would get to make sure I was OK. Well, I immediately got diarrhea and haven't stopped for 12 hours.

Dr. Lagares-Garcia is a great surgeon and his knowledge of specific circumstances is impeccable. If you have any questions or concerns the doctor that's on call if after hours will call you back within minutes. That's a rare find these days. His staff goes above and beyond for your needs. I highly recommend this practice.

Great doctor. I highly recommend him. One of those doctors that truly cares about his patients. He takes the time to answer questions and wants the patients to feel comfortable with the decision that they make. Thank you for all that you did for me.

I would recommend him highly. Time was of the essence, and he operated before the cancer had spread. Great bedside manner, too. Very good at what he does.

I'm pretty sure the people who have rated poor scores for Dr. Lagares are the type of people that go on complaining about everything & everyone for no good reason. Dr. Lagares is such a wonderful & caring human being. I was young with no health coverage & he was so concern for me that he never charged me a dime. Thanks to him I am living a healthy long life. A lifetime wouldn't be enough to thank him for what he has done for me
