Dr. Joseph William Lowry, MD

Following his Radiology training at NYU , where he was elected Chief Resident, Dr. Lowry came to Staten Island Hospital in 1982. As continuous member of the SIUH Medical staff since that time, he has served as Assistant Director, Associate Director as well as Director of the Department of Radiology.

Dr. Lowry has developed a much deserved reputation for being proficient in many radiology disciplines, including Abdominal, Thoracic and Neuro imaging. Under the tutelage of Leonard Berliner M.D. he developed his interventional skills, performing many interventional procedures, becoming a Member of Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology in July 1989.

He was named the original MRI section chief in 1990 when MRI services first came to Staten Island. In 2007, he introduced CT Colonoscopy services to SIUH by giving a Medical Grand Rounds lecture on the subject. This CT application has proven a valuable adjunct to our GI colleagues who, on occasion, are unable to complete …conventional colonoscopy procedures.

Dr. Lowry has served as the Abdominal Section Chief and has recently been named chief of Thoracic Imaging. He provides a continuous presence at the Outpatient Imaging facility (Verrazano Radiology) and is always available to our referring physicians, providing experienced consultative services.

As part of the Radiology resident education program, he provides weekly lectures to our radiology residents and has given GI and GU board review sessions over the last 3 years. He was named Radiology Attending of the Year (2008-2009) by the residents for those efforts.

Dr. Lowry received his Board Certification in 1982. He is an active member of the American College of Radiology and the American Roentgen Ray Society.
