Dr. Joseph Alexander Mareno, MD

Just had my second procedure by Dr Moreno, all went smoothly and I just feel so comfortable with him. Explains everything in a language I can understand and has a great bedside manner. Would not hesitate to recommend him highly.

Doctor Mareno is likely the most friendly and concerned doctor I have yet experienced in 40 years of seeing doctors. What is rare is the level of attentiveness and professionalism. Wish all doctors were like this one!

I had an issue that caused me to have to see Dr. Mareno for about 10 months. He is the best doctor I have ever seen. He actually cares about his patients. He will ask a lot of questions to get you know you and he doesn't rush appointments. He performed surgery on me multiple times and when I saw other specialists (for other issues) the doctors and nurses would always comment on how well my surgery spot looked and would ask who my surgeon was! They were VERY impressed with Dr. Mareno's work. I am all healed now, thanks to Dr. Mareno. He not only was my surgeon for 10 months he became a friend!

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Mareno. I went to see him after noticing some alarming symptoms, as a relatively young (38), extremely anxious patient. He diagnosed the problem and came up with a treatment strategy that was exactly aggressive enough yet including as little invasive treatment as possible. (I had several precancerous polyps removed by a combination of colonoscopic and laparoscopic surgical removal.) The treatment was perfect as a technical matter. Equally important, Dr. Mareno is obviously a good person who thinks about and respects his patients: he delivered lab results promptly and personally, always made rounds personally, and always took time to answer my many (and sometimes irrational) questions and concerns. I could not recommend him more highly.

Dr. Mareno sees his patients as series of surgeries, and beyond the procedures he thinks he is going to perform, has no interest or recollection of his patients. Do not see this doctor. I have had three appointments with Dr. Mareno to treat serious hemorrhoids. At 32, it was unclear whether to proceed with surgery or with banding. On our first meeting, he recommended - despite the seriousness and pain -surgery. Per his recommendation, I took time (5 days) off of work to recover. On our second pre-surgery appointment, he seemed unsure of why I was there. When I reminded him that he suggested we have a pre-surgery appointment, he reacted as if he had just remembered and then began cautiously advising me against surgery and suggested a more conservative approach with several treatments of banding. I was troubled by the drastic change in plan, but relieved at not needing surgery so I agreed.On our third appointment, an in-office banding, the procedure itself went well. Dr. Mareno… was patient and understanding. When I asked him what the rest of the plan was (on our previous appointment he had suggested multiple bandings) he said that "there was no further plan". He could not remember the details of our first meeting, or our conversation on our second. His plan on our third was different yet again - he suggested to attempt only one banding and go with surgery if the condition didn't improve. When I pointed out his three different action plans, he seemed cavalier, and frankly didn't look like he remembered any of it. I left feeling like my doctor was indifferent about my course treatment.The lack of professionalism that Dr. Mareno displayed were deeply troubling, I can only hope no one else has the same experience.

Highly recommend! I had a serious surgery that was very successful. Dr. Mareno has a wonderful bedside manner and is very thorough. I would not hesitate to recommend him!

I highly recommend Dr. Joseph Mareno for he is very professional and I feel very comfortable with him. I am an Asian and just got here in the US last year 2010 and don't know yet the medical system and ethics here in the country. I find him very compassionate and comforting and you would not hesitate to ask him as many questions as you want for he is very knowledgeable and highly skilled doctor. He also educates you as patient with utmost care and quality. He also responds to your needs promptly. I would see him again in 6 months for just a follow up check up and I won't hesitate to see him again.

Dr Mareno was very open to talking to me about my concerns. I saw him for five months and during that time he also impressed my G/I doc with his tenacity and willingness to work together for solving problems. (You ALWAYS want a doctor who can and will work with other specialists in your care if the need arises).Ultimately I am all better! Which is EXACTLY what you want to report. Dr. Mareno was willing to be a team with me even though I was a "difficult" patient at times and also afraid of surgeries. (hello- butt stuff). I would recommend this surgeon to you because I would see him again should I have need of his expertise.
