Summary

Dr. Joshua Dines is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. For the last 10 years, he has been featured in New York Magazines Best Doctors and Castle Connollys Top Doctors in America. Dr. Dines specializes in surgery for sports related injuries of athletes at all levels. His experience treating professional athletes stems from his work as a team doctor for the NY Mets, NY Rangers, US Davis Cup Tennis team and the LA Dodgers. Additionally, he is the Medical Director for Major League Pickleball. His work with the highest-level athletes enables him to provide outstanding care to high school, college and recreational athletes. Along these lines, Dr. Dines has performed thousands of surgeries using the most innovative arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques to treat the majority of shoulder, elbow, and knee problems including: rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations (instability and labral tears), elbow UCL (Tommy John surgery) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. He has a particular interest in joint replacement surgery of the shoulder (primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty and reverse shoulder arthroplasty) and tendon injuries (rotator cuff, distal biceps, tennis elbow, golfers elbow and Achilles tendon repairs). He has developed novel techniques and implants to improve the results of shoulder, elbow and knee surgeries. Additionally, he has done significant research on the use of biologics (i.e., platelet-rich plasma/PRP/growth factors) to help patients avoid surgery and/or enhance their healing process. Dr. Dines has published more than 300 original research articles with a focus on injuries to overhand athletes (baseball and tennis players), tendon injuries and shoulder joint preservation. He routinely lectures nationally and internationally and has been flown to several countries to operate on professional athletes and VIPs. His novel research on the use of growth factors and biologics to enhance tendon healing has resulted in national awards. Dr. Dines has edited 6 textbooks used to teach other orthopedic surgeons. Prior to joining the Sports Medicine Institute at HSS, Dr. Dines graduated from Dartmouth College and Weill Cornell Medical College. He did his residency at HSS where, during his final year, he won the award for excellence in research. Dr. Dines completed his sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles where he worked as part of the medical staff for the LA Dodgers, the LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks, and served as an assistant to the team physician of the LA Lakers. Dr. Dines has a strong interest in increasing public awareness and knowledge of sports injuries. He authors a column on forbes.com and is guest contributor on Fox 5 New York.
