Zero stars for my experience. Only scheduled a new patient virtual appointment for my son to have continued care to a place closer to our new home. Dr. Kalpana Shanmugam was cold, dull, insensitive, and made me feel uncomfortable with her carelessness to try and establish a new relationship with a new potential patient. She completely failed to provide me any assurance of her ability to help us or sense of support in my son’s health. I felt discrimination after sharing very private details about my family health history as she demanded me to elaborate in the evaluation. If you are looking for genuine, honest psychiatric care from a knowledgeable and friendly, warm-hearted Psychiatrists who put their patients first…. Then KALPANA SHANMUGAM is NOT the one for you! NOT EVER.

Dr. Shanmugen treated my young adult daughter for about two years, during covid. I was trying to let my 18 year old navigate her own care but asked to join the last appointment to voice concerns, where I discovered she was dismissive and arrogant. We suggested my daughter may have ADHD, causing the anxiety and depression, which she dismissed completely. My daughter also had dizziness, nausea, and other symptoms since starting prescriptions, and Dr. Shanmugen said that the meds would not be causing those problems. She insinuated drug and alcohol abuse, which was not the case, asking both of us multiple times about usage. Since then, my daughter's new care team said she was being over medicated and on wrong meds, they had her tested for ADHD, which she does have, and the new medicine and approach is working wonders.

She is very cold and rude. She doesn’t know how to speak to people. She basically tells you to shut up and listen to what she says and do it. She dismisses everything you say and is all about how she’s right and your wrong. No manners at all. Don’t waste your time with her.

We saw Dr Shanguman for two months. That is all we could take. She is not warm at all?! You would think being a child psychiatrist she would be? Right? Nope. She doesn’t ask you what you think and only tells you what she wants to do. Don’t go to her. Save yourself time. My family and another was referred by our pediatrician and both of us are currently seeking a new psychiatrist. My child is not doing well on the medicine she placed him on. He missed days of school and I work.
