Dr. Katharine Louise Ostedgaard, MD

We saw Dr. Katharine Ostedgaard (Pediatric Head & Neck Surgery) at Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center, and our experience was extremely disappointing. We came in with concerns including snoring, disrupted sleep, grinding/clenching, reflux, neck and back tension, slow eating, jaw development, and a noticeable lisp. Our pediatric dentist and an orofacial myofunctional therapist outside of Kaiser had both recommended treatment. Instead, the assessment was extremely brief. She looked at our child’s tongue for only a few seconds and did not evaluate airway, breathing, or function. A tongue tie was acknowledged but dismissed as “not significant,” and we were told these symptoms are not proven to be related and that myofunctional therapy is not recommended. When I mentioned our outside providers, she stated they should not be referred to as “doctors.” The responses felt inconsistent and at times contradictory, and the overall interaction felt dismissive and condescending. This… visit was a waste of time and copay. Families seeking a thorough evaluation for tongue-tie or functional concerns should strongly consider looking elsewhere.
