Dr. Kendra Kirstie Kay, MD

The HEAD nurse for STATE of MD recommended I give doctor Kay a try. I was reluctant to trust doctors again but she said Dr. Kay really listens well and goes above and beyond to help those with complex health issues ... I can tell you 150% she was correct I’ve been with Dr Kay over 5 years now all of my symptoms are thoroughly managed by her... even my mental heath Where I once struggled with wanting to live at ALL out of mistrust, frustration and disappointment with other health professionals treating me like a hot potatoe- I now have hope with Dr. Kay... she’s the BEST! Dr Kay is so invaluable to me I pray for “ HER” HEALTH and her family’s HEALTH so that she’s around for her patients as long as possible. Most importantly, She does listen well and does NOT rush you out the door or asked you to come back if you have multiple concerns. Regarding wait times it’s not often that I wait more than 30 minutes to be seen.. Her staff is wonderful and they do follow up. Even when I… forget they make sure I come in and get my medications refilled. They know me by face, by name, and my medical issues without even looking at the charts. The thing is-They actually act like they CARE and that’s important to me. Now I couldn’t be happier even WITH my ongoing health issues.

Dr. Kay is very nice, knowledgeable and will spend a good amount of time with you. She's not pushy and listens to your concerns, but will sometimes forget what she said she would do at next visit. She sometimes brushes off what you say as if she knows what it is without seeing it. You could say you have a lump inside your cheek and she may say oh that's nothing, you probably bit it/irritated it/that's normal, but she doesn't look at it. It takes a lot to get her to examine you if you go regularly. If there for a routine follow-up and say your throat hurts, she will say well I can look at it if you want. Yes, I want! Isn't that normal to want if it hurts? The office staff leaves a lot to be desired. The woman at the front desk is not pleasant and I always hope someone new is sitting at that desk when I open the door. The rotating medical assistant students who act like you will break if they take your pulse could also go. You know how you're nervous at a new job, often tentative for… fear of making a mistake? That's what they're like but you get that at each visit since there are always new ones, so you, and likely they, never feel comfortable together. They review your history at each appt. (which I'm not keen on doing with these teenagers) and can't even remotely pronounce the names of certain drugs or conditions. Once the main assistant (who is wonderful!) had to come in and take my blood pressure since the young girl couldn't do it right after 3 tries. It feels like you're in a high school vo-tech class! The wait times are ridiculous. They didn't used to be, but now you could easily wait an hour in a tiny standing room only waiting room...maybe 10 chairs...always full. No getting in quick for something urgent. They tell you to go to an urgent care clinic or wait 10 days for a sinus infection! I like Dr. Kay, really I do, and I think she has great potential if only they didn't herd patients in like a cattle call. Quantity vs. quality. I dread going there and having to deal with the staff and the wait time, but after seeing Dr. Kay I feel like it's an okay place, until my next appt. which I dread all over again.

Dr Kendra Kay is very caring and thorough. I enjoy having her as my doctor.
