Dr. Kenneth Jared Hess, DO

Dr. Hess is such a good doctor. He's not one of those doctors who's got one foot out the door after 30 seconds. Instead, he spends ample time with me and explains everything very well. He's knowledgeable, as well as personable. I like the fact that he's not a prescription hound. He gives an educated and forthright analysis of the problem, along with reasonable course of treatment. He will make you feel comfortable and welcome.

I am a patient with cystic fibrosis. (TWO Wellmont doctors called me a liar when I told them I have CF.) I had asked Kenneth Hess to prescribe Pulmicort for me to help with my breathing. He refused. He ordered a home pulse oximetry test required by Medicare to pay for my oxygen. He never shared the results of that test with me, which had been received by him MONTHS ago. When I asked why I wasn’t contacted with the results, he countered by asking me why I didn’t call and ask. BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE TIME A TEST RESULT COMES BACK, I RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF IT?? After being increasingly sick for more than a month, I decided to go outside the god awful Wellmont system and instead went to a COMPETENT hospital in Abingdon. I was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer?? I now have a wonderful new PCP who doesn’t think he knows it all, who communicates WITH me and not AT me, and who prescribed my much-needed Pulmicort, which Kenneth Hess REFUSED to… prescribe when requested. I am dying now. If you care about your health, stay away from ALL Wellmont doctors.

Dr. Hess always spends ample time with me. He actually listens and tries to understand me. He helps me get cost effective treatments and gets results.
