Dr. Kent Frederick Hoskins, MD

I went to the Familial Breast Cancer Program office location at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC.) The office visit was great; I saw one the very professional and helpful genetic counselors on Dr. Hoskins' staff. The hospital was very disorganized- you check in at the outpatient clinic desk, which is very chaotic. What I didn't know was that UIC, unlike any other hospital-based specialist location I have ever visited, charges you not just for the specialist visit, but as an outpatient visiting the clinic and will level charges against your deductible as such. I fought charges that were many times higher than they would have been anywhere else for months, receiving calls from a collection agency while the billing department said they were "reviewing" my claim. I ended up paying the whole amount in the end; my insurance company couldn't adjust anything as long as the hospital insisted on billing me as an outpatient clinic visit instead of a simple specialist visit. Great doctor… and staff, but go to any other location. It's not worth the headache on top of the stress of your visit.

Dr. Hoskins provided treatment recommendations for my breast cancer. He was happy to recommend a second opinion at Rush Presbyterian who completely agreed with him. His bedside manor was excellent and made me feel good even though I was going thru a rough time. He is very detailed and I can't recommend him high enough.

I came to Dr Hoskins with a two generation of cancer on the maternal side of the family--with a total 7 family members dying from cancer. Dr Hoskins did a thorough make up on my medical history and then proceeded with genetic testing before making recommendations for me. He did an excellent job of presenting my options and also showing the statistical success rate of each option. The final decision, while obvious, was mine to make. I could not have asked for a better doctor/patient consultation and follow up care.
