My therapist who I had for years and loved moved out of town taking care to find me a replacement: That’s how I came to meet Dr. Corbett. I read her reviews online and noticed that they were either horrible or amazing so I decided to go myself and keep an open mind. She booked me out a month in advance and I missed the first appointment. She was nice as to reschedule me so I waited several more weeks. By the time the day came I was really in need of a good session so my hopes were maybe higher than they should have been. I really didn’t want that part about her having no empathy to be true. When she shook my hand she squeezed the crap out of it. She smiled the whole time but everything else about her self projection was aggressive. And I mean like REALLY aggressive. She hardly let me get a word in from the moment we sat down. First I told her I’m trying to quit smoking herb after 20 years of being a regular smoker. She argued for about 5 minutes her opinions on marijuana being a… non addictive non issue, how she doesn’t care what anyone else says, it’s fine AND went on about AA being ridiculous, rehab works %2 percent of the time and all people need to do is change their habits. I shifted the conversation to stage fright. She cut me off and forcefully went on about how easy that should be to think my way out of as well with positive self talk. I brought up Dr. Emoto’s water experiments which she hadn’t heard of at all but she rolled her eyes and shot it down and changed the subject to Galileo. 20 minutes into the session I mentioned my borderline personality disorder and the challenges I face having it as a mom. She went off again about how personality disorders aren’t real, they are just responses to trauma. Anyone who knows anything about BPD and the nature of the disorder knows how emotional regulation is made extremely challenging by the dysfunction of the amygdala and high emotions are triggered in invalidating situations like people telling you you don’t, didn’t or should feel something you did or do. Mind you at this point I had long since quietly concluded that I was far more knowledgeable about a number of things than this licensed woman, if not psychology and neuroscience, definitely charisma, charm, basic listening and counseling skills. Nothing about this experience was therapeutic. I was really only staying to hold integrity since I’d missed my first session. She asked me matter-of-factly “How vested are you in that diagnosis? Because there’s no way you could function at all if you had it”. I explained I was diagnosed 12 years ago, have 7 books on it and that self knowledge and practice managing my symptoms are my saving grace to which she said RUDEly inquired “Then why are you in therapy?!” I said “I’m not.” And left. I can’t believe she is still in practice. Someone should text her for stimulants.

DOES NOT RESPECT PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY, no empathy, insensitive, always late for sessions, biased, can't control her emotions, yells at me, and close-minded.
