Dr. Kiply Jason Myers, MD

I saw Dr. Myers for three years while in law school, and cannot recommend him enough. The reviews that classify him as “cold” likely don’t understand his communication style, which, to their credit, is fair—he’s not necessarily a “warm” provider, but I would never describe him as cold and he is certainly caring, which only became more evident during my time with him. My ADHD diagnosis when I was a child was untraditional compared to the current diagnostic process, which always makes me nervous when speaking to a new provider. However, he never doubted my experience and was very validating. I’ve encountered other providers who refused to prescribe bupropion simultaneously with other ADHD stimulants as a result of outdated research that their offices adhered to, and this was never an issue with Dr. Myers. He was trusting of my own experience and even when he offered potential alternative explanations to the ones I came in with (e.g., I had symptoms that I later learned were caused by… long covid during my last year of school and he did note that people in their final years experienced similar symptoms- like “senioritis”), he still said that I could always call after a few weeks and ask for the higher dose if I found that my symptoms did not improve/I felt there was more to it than senioritis. Frankly, I do tend to believe the patient over the physician 99.9% of the time as I have been gaslit and brushed aside by plenty of doctors for both mental and physical conditions. However, I concur with another review on here that says those who left negative reviews likely did not get their way. I do think many people don’t express their concerns as clearly as they think or assumed they did, and I would not be surprised if that is what happened with some other reviewers. I saw him from 2022-2025 and had nothing but positive experiences and he was my first “pure” psychiatrist, and I had never heard anyone speak super positively about their psychiatrists. Cannot recommend him and much of the team at IU student health center enough.

If you want a doctor that cares about you and your mental health, I would not go to Dr. Myers. I almost lost my life because of this fraud of a doctor. He put me on a medication that gave me suicidal thoughts and urges (I have not had a history of this prior). When I told him about this, he said I should continue taking the medication. He also kept switching me to different medications quickly before I had a chance to get used to them. I became significantly more depressed because of the medications I was on. His solution was to increase the dosage of each medication to unnecessary high doses for my condition. My friends, family, and significant other were all very concerned because my personality changed abruptly and I was too depressed to leave my bed. When I was in such a horrible condition that I was unable to make my appointments, instead of expressing concern Dr. Myers told me he didn't want me to be his patient because I couldn't make my appointments. The two medications I was… on require you to be withdrawn from them individually over a few months and Dr. Myers did it in two weeks. It was nightmarish what my brain went through during those two weeks. I have never felt so terrible in my entire life. My new, competent psychiatrist is appalled at his treatment and malpractice. I am doing well now and all thanks to him dropping me as a patient. I wish I had never went to this doctor and I wouldn't wish his "treatments" on my worst enemy.

Kiply saved my degree in 2012 by correctly diagnosing me with minor depression and strongly suggesting talk therapy along with Wellbutrin. I would not have my bachelors of science degree if it were not for his help. He is a wonderful doctor. Ignore the terrible reviews - they probably just didn’t get their way. Kiply has my enduring gratitude and I wish him to find a doctor of his caliber in my new town. He is rare. Take advantage of his great care while you can at IU.

It took me 3 months to even be approved to see a psychiatrist at IU AND I saw Dr. Meyers because he is the only psychiatrist that accepts my insurance. I have had attentional issues my whole life and was evaluated for and diagnosed with adhd at Children’s national in DC. Well according to Dr. Meyers, my diagnosis isn’t real and I don’t have attentional issues and “I only think I do”. Yeah ok. So I’m out of my meds a week before finals and he won’t refill them. I also have diagnosed depression and he says that’s fake too but he thankfully gave me my Lexapro so I wouldn’t go into withdrawal (guess he knows where to draw the line). Needless to say he is a very cold and invalidating doctor and does not belong in the practice.

Do not see Dr.Myers. Kiply Myers. Do NOT see him. ANYONE but him. He works for IU health center for a reason - he's a horrible psychiatrist. He seemed nice and knowledgable the first time, but don't be fooled. He doesn't care about the health of the patient, and he blatantly lies. He lied to my face twice when I confronted him about things he had told me in the past. He accused me of faking a diagnoses. I decided to switch to a real psychiatrist, and without my knowledge Dr.Meyers sent the new psychiatrist a poor referral. If I had any current life threatening mental health issues, my suicide would be on his hands, due to the way he mishandles his patients. If you have to see a psychiatrist, find one in the area that accepts your insurance. Stay away from CAPS completely. I've been going there for over a year and have had nothing but problems.

Dr. Myers diagnosed me without ever giving me an eval. Oddly, his diagnosis was inaccurate! He takes poor notes and mischaracterizes past conversations. He consistently made derogatory comments about me, and implied that I did not belong in school. He also seems to have some misconceptions about major psychiatric disorders. He actually told me that my condition would "go away" in three weeks! Always very rushed, doesn't listen. I also think he doesn't think before he opens his mouth. He definitely has a temper, and does not appreciate questions. In my opinion, not a good fit between personality and career choice.
