Dr. Kirti Amar Chavan, MD

My husband and I feel very fortunate that she is our doctor. She listens and takes our concerns seriously, doesn't hesitate to send us to specialists if warranted, and is responsive by phone/online even into late hours. She sent me to the ER late one night, and called after 1:00 am to check up on me. Dr. Chavan loves her work.

I like the fact that Dr Chavan is open to discussing any problem and listens to what I have to say. Treatment is very collaborative. I feel she is an excellent clinician and is always on top of what is going on with me. I have cancer and am being treated for that but she keeps up to date with my scans and options. Also if I ask a question thru My Chart Dr. C answers it VERY promptly. She is the best

Highly competent, really listens, seems to have read your file before your visit. Very pleasant and offers easy to understand recommendations. She also listens to the your recommendations/feedback about specialists. Best PC /Internist I've seen in years. I feel fortunate to have been accepted as her patient after a string of PCs who either left Presbyterian practice or whom I felt did not well serve my best medical needs. Also, I never have a long wait for my appointments.

I already work in healthcare but my insurance changed and she was assigned to me as a new PCP. She prescribed a drug and I asked what the side effects were, and she dismissed me with, "All pharmaceuticals have side effects, even ibuprofen." She was too busy to answer even the most cursory questions. I will be seeking a new PCP stat.

I went in for a physical and this Dr. was so fixated on her own agenda that I didn't get what I needed. She made my anxiety and sciatica worse. I am going to her superiors. She shouldn't work with people.

Believe all of the other bad reviews. This doctor is combative, negative, and for some reason seems to have it out for patients. She seems to think that everybody that comes in are drug seekers. Dr Chavan also likes to refer to other physicians that seem to be friends of hers even if they are not on the patient’s insurance plan or even in Presbyterians group. Talk about unethical. I could go on and on. Just stay away. I thought I could deal with her because I don’t see her very often. I finally ran away to find someone else. (Nice office staff).

Really nice doctor with a pleasing personality and cares about long term well being. Not a pill pusher. Glad she is in Albuquerque..

She listens and really pays attention to your concerns. Dr Chavan also seems to be in favor of fewer prescriptions unless they're necessary.

Wouldn't listen to me. I told her why I was there. She said she would decide what I needed. I got up and walked out before the exam, then received a large bill as if she had examined me.

I went to see Dr. Chavan for chronic pain. She prescribed me medication that she said was for nerve pain, did blood work, and wanted me to track down old test results from a doctor I had 10+ years ago. So I go on a wild goose chase for this information, find it, fax it over, schedule a follow up appointment (she is booked out several months in advance) and wait. I get a phone call a month later saying she's not in office on the day I had an appointment for so it was being cancelled. Appointment gets pushed out another two months. Then I get a notice from my insurance saying they're not covering any of my initial visit. I call to find out why. They inform me that it was billed as a mental health visit and I need to contact the provider. I call to be informed that I was diagnosed (without being informed) with an anxiety and mood disorder and the "nerve pain" medication I was prescribed was actually an antidepressant that sent me into withdrawals and put me in urgent care and on muscle… relaxers when I stopped taking it. NONE of this information was disclosed to me. According to the billing records she documented NONE of my concerns about my pain. Entirely brushed me off as a mental case. Do not go see her, even as a last resort, and if you do, make sure you ask questions and RECORD EVERYTHING SHE SAYS so that she can't lie about it on your billing paperwork. Ethically corrupt nightmare. Will be filing a grievance with the board.
