Dr. Laurence Earl Dahners, MD

I thought Dr. Dahners was a little dry at our first meeting, but after I called back and got the surgery scheduled, all of that changed. I had fallen thru a ceiling, and I developed a large cyst in my hip joint. The only thing that did not hurt to do was standing up. I had read that he was performing the required surgery arthroscopically, and that the recovery time was a few weeks, as compared to the conventional surgery that offered a 6 month recovery time due to the large incision thru the muscle. I had outpatient surgery, and was able to walk that day, and everything was back to normal in a couple of weeks. When I went for my pre-op visit, Dr. Dahmer was really interested, and answered all of our questions. He also introduced me to his staff and internes. While I was doing my pre-op, one of the nurses said that I could not have chosen anyone better to fix my problem. I had spent over 6 months with my local doctors, and had had three fluoroscopic injections, to no avail. My lucky day… was that his name came up when I searched the internet for someone who would "scope" a hip problem. The nurse was correct in her statement about the doctor. After my surgery. Dr. Dalners met with my wife and son, and both held the opinion that he was very good to them. This was my first time try finding a doctor on the internet, but not my last.If you cannot find someone you trust where you are, it pays to look around!

Dr Dahners treated me for a tib fracture after I waited 2 weeks for him to to return from leave over the holidays. No big deal about that but upon treating me he said everything was fine. I returned several weeks later with an infection caused by the hardware. At that time Dr Dahners accused me of being malnourished several times until several nurses stuck up for me. He was very rude in his bedside manner and would not listen to me. In his care I was terrified, his bedside manner was rude, his resident surgegeons were reflective of his demeanor and he should be reprimanded,

I HAD A OPEN, COMPOUND, COMMINUTED TIB-FIB FRACTURE BACK IN 1987 AND AFTER NUMEROUS SURGERIES, EXTERNAL FIXATORS AND INTERNAL FIXATORS HE SAVED MY LEG. HE HAD ME WALKING IN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR, WHILE OTHER DOCTORS WANTED TO AMPUTATE MY LEG.AND I WAS BACK TO WORKING ON AN AMBULANCE WITHIN 2 YEARS.

Dahners failed to diagnose bone disease in 2010 when he first had an appointment with me. Then when I was hospitalized at UNC, he again missed the bone disease. I almost died. I had to find an orthopedic surgeon 1000 miles away to save my life. Dahners is, in my experience, incompetent.

Dr Dahners is a wonderful person, first, and a really outstanding surgeon also. He took time with our family to go over procedures and such prior to surgery; and followed up with how things went during surgery. He took time to explain and answer our concerns. We recently saw him again and found him to be the exact same - kind, generous, patient, helpful and knowledgable. Wonderful!
