Dr. Laurie Rothman, MD

I have been calling the office all you get is answering service

In person, a visit with Dr. Rothman is thorough, informative and compassionate when necessary. Personally and professionally as an individual I do genuinely have much admiration and respect for her. However, I have been extremely torn in making decision regarding finding another internist. Why? Because, though she is excellent and impressive on "regular" to routine preventative checkups and consultations...there have been two separate occasions in which I phoned during office hours regarding two different sudden situations medically in the past two years that I needed and wanted to SEE Dr. Rothman at least briefly to get HER opinion and direction regarding BEFORE going to the expense and discomfort of some stranger physician at a walk in med center, much less be subjected to the chaos of an emergency room. EVERY personal physician I've ever had in my adult life ALWAYS allowed "work in" brief appointments when there was a medical situation that necessitated the physician literally… "seeing" the problem to BEST advise the patient what was best course of action, i.e. be that the physician making a phone call to expedite getting me, the patient, into a specialist or in for a test ASAP. However, to my great dismay and frankly, great surprise, this was NOT the case with Dr. Rothman's office. The nurse FINALLY returned my calls after MANY hours in each instance, put me on hold, came back on the line and said Dr. Rothman "could not be bothered as she was just simply to busy to even work me in for literally only five to ten minutes" with this situation and I should just go get an opinion from perhaps a walk in clinic doctor OR an emergency room doctor. Wow. My mouth literally fell open in astonishment both times. I will only add that I have absolutely NO reputation as an "oddball" who imagines I have a health issue. Perhaps being ignored and not taken seriously is the price I pay for being "too healthy?" After all, IF one rarely is truly ill and does not SEE a doctor but once or twice yearly, the harsh reality is that you are basically a name and account number on a sheet as you have literally had no substantive opportunities to build a rapport with the doctor as you don't see her often enough for her to genuinely get invested in really being acquainted with you well enough to help you when you might need her the most. The personal physician I had prior to Dr. Rothman (who retired and thus why I needed a new one) was tremendous in 100% patient needs; i.e. allowing very brief "work in" appointments and also even utilized brief email exchanges between us as patients and the doctor in the most important matters. My apologies for such a lengthy observation; but, again, I am very torn about what to do regarding Dr. Rothman. Again, I do have a high opinion of her intellect, her analytical medical skills and her personal demeanor when sitting across from her...BUT, bottom line is I am sadly NOT truly convinced MY well being truly and really is of any genuine importance to her.

A pleasure to visit Dr Rothman and her staff. Knowledgeable and caring.

While it may appear most persons prefer a physician of the same sex, as a male, I can only say that Dr. Rothman is the best Doctor I have ever been to in my 54 years of life. I have never felt rushed out of her office. She asks questions no other Dr. ever has, and then allows me to ask questions and will answer them until I am satisfied. Genuinely care about her patients.

Find another doctor. She is not responsive. Called in with a problem in the morning and left a message. No one returned the call. Called later in the afternoon and told they did not get the message. Promised they would talk to the doctor and get back to me. No one did. Called the next day and told doctor busy and if I had a problem to go to a doctor at a shopping center. I guess she never took the oath "Do No Harm". Would not trust her now for a second!

Jessica at the front desk is terrible. I spoke to another front office employee who was equally bad. Not knowledgable, rude, and ended with we're not accepting new patients. What a horrible way to represent a doctors office.

Very compassionate and takes time to listen. She is great.

Dr. Rothman is very caring and spends so much time discussing my issues. I find her to be extremely thorough and knowledgeable. I like her whole body approach. I have and wiil continue to recommend her.

I really like Dr. R. She really listens, explains everything thoroughly and is very kind. I never feel rushed. I also trust her diagnoses. However, the person who schedules her appoints should not be talking to patients. I dread calling and having to talk to her. She is unprofessional and rude. Maybe she doesn't have to sound like she cares about my illness but she shouldn't sound like I am bothering her by scheduling an appointment. It happens every time so not a once off. But again- Dr. R is sweet & warm.

Dr. Rothman is clearly an excellent doctor, but staff issues have had me considering changing physicians. Unless you contact the doctor or office manager directly, prescriptions don't get called in, insurance does not get updated, payments are not credited, emails are not returned, despite persistent follow up. I would give the doctor four stars if it were not for these issues.
