Lawrence W. Frank, M.D. is a board certified physiatrist, specialty trained in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of back, neck and joint conditions as well as muscle and peripheral nerve injuries. His focus is on optimizing non-operative, rehabilitative and preventative treatment. He also has expertise in minimally invasive spinal procedures including epidural and facet injection, radiofrequency neurotomy, and intradiscal procedures for diagnosis and treatment of back and neck pain. He is board certified in electromyography for the diagnosis of muscle and nerve diseases. Dr. Frank has been a team physician for various local high schools, and his sports medicine experience has included on-field and training room treatment of high school, college, and professional athletes. He is presently the team physician for Gordon Technical High School in Chicago, his alma mater.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Illinois, Dr. Frank completed an internship in internal medicine at Evanston Hospital, and a three year residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, affiliated with Northwestern University Medical School. After residency, Dr. Frank completed a fellowship in sports and spine medicine at Illinois Spine and SportsCare Centers in Bloomingdale, IL in 1996.

Dr. Frank is the founder and medical director of Spine & Sports Physiatrists. He also serves as an assistant professor in the departments of neurological surgery and physical medicine and rehabilitation at Rush University School of Medicine, Chicago, IL, and is an active teacher and lecturer. He is the director of a nationally renowned spine and sports medicine fellowship program, and has trained numerous residents and fellows. Dr. Frank is an international speaker on the topics of spine care and sports medicine, and has been an invited instructor at numerous national spinal injection courses. He has also published a number articles and book chapters on electromyography, sports medicine, spine care and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. He is an examiner for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Dr. Frank is active in several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, North American Spine Society, and the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports, and Occupational Rehabilitation. He has served on and chaired numerous professional committees and is a past President of the Illinois Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
