Dr. Leon J Ravvin, MD

Dr. Ravvin performed two cervical spine fusions on me. I was very satisfied with the procedures and outcome. He was very friendly, described the procedures in detail and took VERY good care of me. I highly recommend him and would go to him again if necessary.

Not going to the entire story but if you have to have surgery on your back, DO NOT LET THIS GUY DO IT! Once he operates on you he believes you are fixed for life and if you say you still have pain, you are lying. If you have a physically demanding job he will not give you enough time off work to heal and will send you back with no restrictions. This is why Im in worse shape now than I was to begin with. I had two second opinions after my surgery and they both told me there was still a lot of herniation and couldn't really tell a difference between pre op and post op. Also, if you attend a pain management clinic for chronic back pain, do not tell this guy. He called me a drug addict and said they people who go to pain clinics are drug addicts. For the record I have severe spinal stenosis from a large herniation on L5-S1 and L4-L5. Having a hard time to find a doctor to fix my back because they all don't want there name associated with the mess that this man made and who can blame them.… For Now I am attending pain management but nothing seems to help. I am in severe pain. This Doctor is very rude. Plus if your injury is work comp related, this guy is an insurance doctor. Ive been told by my lawyer that he testifies on behalf of the insurance companies all the time. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I assume that the two earlier reviews were written by his staff because my experience could not have been more different. He may have done a good job on the surgery but his aftercare was nonexistent. His staff gave me recovery advice that he later contradicted. They also prescribed me medication that he then told me not to take. When I described the pain I still felt he said nothing, but he was very interested in why I wanted a copy if my X-ray. Instead of helping me through my recovery, he said if he had a magic wand he would use it. How about using your medical degree to help me? As for his staff, they are nice but failed to actually schedule me for the test they had twice reminded me of and gave me another patient's paperwork while explaining that ravvin may be late because he had a dentist appointment. What a coincidence. I had a doctors appointment at that time. In his defense, he did just get back from vacation so he probably had a lot of appointments to make up. That might… explain why my 5 minute meeting with him seemed a nuisance to him. In short, he may be a great surgeon (he was certainly impressed with the X-ray even though it did not show if I was healing), but he could not care less about my recovery. I do not need a great bedside manner. But I do need some genuine medical interest. Anyone looking for a doctor who is interested in their recovery should look elsewhere.

I got three opinions from three different surgeons in the lexington area. The third dr I visited was dr ravvin. He spent more time with me than the previous two and answered all my questions and was the only dr who explained the entire operation procedure by showing me the mri and ex rays. Very courteous staff and heck of a dr. I had lower lumber diskectomy and is was very succesful. I give 4 out of 4 stars.
