Dr. Lilia Christina Lovera, MD

I saw Dr Lovera for the first time as she was a touted Movement Disorder Specialist and I wanted to supplement visits to my general Neurologist for existing Parkinson’s Disease. I have had worsening Parkinson’s for 3 years. I saw her in the morning, not long after I took my Parkinson’s meds so my symptoms were somewhat controlled. She asked me if I had any symptoms and I said my arm was starting with a little involuntary movement. After the standard neurological exam for Parkinson’s and responses appropriate for the time of day in my medication schedule, she said she had been watching my left arm and it had not moved! She said all my symptoms - tremors, essential tremors, involuntary movement, slurred speech, and autonomic problems were due not to Parkinson’s but to anxiety. What! Basically she said I was faking it, told me to have more tests, which are no better than the tests and multiple diagnoses I already have had. Then she swept out of the room and said to see her in a year.… I later looked up her profile and noticed that her second specialty is Psychiatry. That explains a lot. This lady is not integrating her fields of practice. She is a psychiatrist first. And not even an MDS. Just a plain old MD. And she is absolutely smug and narcissistic. I will not be going back to her. How dare she! I wish she could walk a mile in my shoes and then imagine how anyone could fake such a miserable disease. BEWARE of this horrible doctor who thinks she is absolutely marvelous. Don’t be fooled. Find a real neurologist with some experience and compassion.

Dr Lovera was one of the best Neurologists I have seen. She was very pleasant, thorough and very informative. She took her time and explained everything. A great experience for my first visit to MUSC!

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I went to see her b/c she is a "Movement Specialist" & my neurologist asked me to see a Movement Specialist for my Essential Tremor. My hands and arms started to shake a little starting when I was 15 (now 34), both my father & paternal grandma also had/have Essential Tremor. My tremor as gotten worse over the years, and my head and legs shake occasionally. Dr. Lovera said I had "Functional Tremor" & said my Tremor was due to a childhood trauma, basically said I was faking it! See her for Parkinson's Disease, but never see her for simple Tremor movement help. She is beyond horrible. She also billed me for a service that was not even done. I suggest finding a better Movement Specialist if you are looking for one!

I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's by a doctor in Myrtle Beach. He was uninformative, blunt and I felt that I left with no hope. He gave me a prescription, said how many years I had left and told me the scary way I would die. I then went to Dr. Lovera. She spent a great deal of time testing me, both for coordination and mental process. She explained the course of treatment, explained my prognosis and told be things I could do to help slow down the progression. I left the office feeling confident that I knew more about the disease and that she would work with me as things changed. She has expertise and the humanity needed with a diagnosis like this. No question, seeing her is worth the drive from Myrtle Beach.
