Dr. Lorraine Sandra Novas, MD

On one appointment I waited for an hour in the room. Her bedside manners are horrible, she is very cold and insensitive. Does not want to explain too much. Shuffle you out with birth control pills despite me telling her I never have been on birth control pills and do not want to start at age 47. For month-lasting heavy period she would not discuss any other option. I was devastated and transferred somewhere else.

Terrible bedside manner. Cold and dismissive.

I love doctor Novas. She is personable and calm. She answers all my questions and I very reassuring. I feel comfortable asking her anything. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. I drive 45 minutes to see her!

Dr. novas is extremely intelligent and wise in her field. She's always kind and sweet to me and thorough. She delivered my twins vaginally although other doctors were more comfortable doing a c section. Because of Dr. Novas I had the smoothest recovery and was on my feet right away to take care of my twins. I'm very lucky to have had her to delivery me naturally! And now I am having my third child and I am going to her again. I have met all the doctors in this practice and they are All great! I trust them all. But if I get a choice I ask for Novas.

When I was 8 weeks pregnant, the ultrasound tech could not find a heartbeat on my baby so she went to get Dr. Novas to take a look and get another set of eyes. Dr. Novas did not come in and told her that I had some bleeding and she was expecting this. I was devastated and shocked by her lack of bedside manner. After meeting with her, she was cold and scheduled a D&C. When I went in for the procedure 2 weeks later, the tech checked for a heartbeat right before I went in and they were shocked that they found one. I was so confused and could not believe they were about to abort a healthy baby. I felt like if Dr. Novas had been less dismissive and more involved, this mistake would never had happened. I switched to a different practice immediately. She even called me and left a message to tell me that this happens sometimes. Let's just say none of my family or friends had ever heard of that happening. It was truly a traumatic experience but I have a healthy 3 year old beautiful boy and… have learned to question doctors if something doesn't feel right.

Several years ago, when I was seeing Dr. Novas, I went for my routine mammogram and low and behold, they found a lump in my breast which turned out to be cancer. The way I was told about it was some young receptionist called me on the phone and told me that I needed to see a surgeon as soon as possible. I was floored! Dr. Novas should have been the one calling me with such devastating news and perhaps setting up an appointment to go over my mammogram results with me. Even my family doctor, at the time, was appalled at the way this was handled. You don't have some "kid" in your office call a patient with such awful news. I never heard from Dr. Novas herself. So needless to say, I never went back. Since then, I have found a wonderful gyne by the name of Lori Anderson who is so kind and caring and is concerned about your whole being, not just her area of expertise.

I had been seeing Dr. Sidney Cohen at this office since I was 16 and was very happy with him. Sadly, when I was 36 he retired which I did not learn until I called to schedule my yearly exam. The receptionist recommended Dr. Novas as she was the first doctor available. Dr. Cohen had suspected that I may have fibroids and when I mentioned that to Dr. Novas she immediately scheduled a test called a sona histagram. She said this test would help get to the bottom of why I was having heavy periods. I explained to her that I was NOT having heavy periods but she insisted on giving me the test anyway. Okay, so the test day came and a nurse gave me a uterine ultrasound and said I would most likely NOT need the sona histogram. When Dr. Novas came in the room finally, the nurse pointed out that the ultrasound did not show any signs of fibroids. I was so relieved but then Dr. Novas said "let's do it anyway." I couldn't believe it! Not only was this procedure uncomfortable, even painful at times,… she very casually remarked when she was done that I would have some bleeding for a day or two and would need to wear a pad. As it turns out, I bleed for nearly 4 days (as if I was having my period) and had horrible cramps. To top it all off, Dr. Novas called me a few days later to let me know that I did not have any fibroids after all. (Surprise, surprise, right?) I have since switched to Dr. Chamberlain who is in the same practice and she is wonderful!! I will never see Dr. Novas again, even if it means waiting a bit longer to get in and see Dr. Chamberlain. One more thing - all the ladies at the front desk are so nice and have never been rude to me in the 20 years I've been coming to this office. :)

I extremely disliked my experience with Dr. Novas; enough that I am switching practices. I felt as if she didn't listen to my concerns, ordered superfluous tests, and pushed unnecessary procedures. This is the first time I've ever had to "fire" a doctor.

I have been going to Dr. Novas for over five years, and I am extremely happy to have found her. She is caring, patient, and never seems hurried when answering your questions. She is genuinely concerned about her patients and this comes across when you speak to her. Although occasionally in the past I have had to book my appt. more than a month in advance in order to see her, she is well worth it. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a compassionate female doctor.
