Dr. Lucille Ann Leong

Dr. Leong saved my life. I am 15 years out from stage 4 Colon Cancer. When I found out I was stage 4 (after stage 3, 2 years earlier. that surgery was NOT done at City of Hope) I asked what are we going to do? Her response was "we are going to cure you". Her positivity helped me to keep looking forward and beat it.

I find it unacceptable that someone can be under the care of what's supposed to be a cutting edge cancer research facility for 12+ years and report new symptoms they are having and it is never explored; instead it is dismissed as allergies! Furthermore, that a self proclaimed "lung cancer specialist" (as stated on this information profile) can miss lung cancer in a patient under your care for 12+ years when it is right under your nose, and the PATIENT (who knows their body best) is reporting symptoms congruent with lung cancer, is completely reprehensible! Dr. Leong used to be thorough many years ago; however, it is abundantly clear that her doctoral oath and level of integrity DO NOT carry the same significance to her as they used to! She is way too busy and rushed, and if a patient does not fit into a "text book" diagnosis, she does not take the time to explore and investigate what's necessary to determine a proper diagnosis. Extremely unethical and a disgrace to the profession! The… oath she took is no longer held by her in high regard as it should be. She is dishonest with her patients and with their families. When asked point blank about the prognosis (when COH finally got the diagnosis after many weeks of waiting around to even get the appropriate tests done!- this was due to the current political bureaucracy going on between doctors and administrators and the resulting lawsuit filed by almost 200 COH doctors because of an unethical sham in which Dr. Levine wants all the doctors to be on contract with her new foundation! MONEY is all they care about and consequently patient care has been compromised and is no longer efficient!)Dr. Leong lied straight to the patient's face! Every time a question about prognosis was asked by a family member, we were lied to and given these "glowing, everything will be fine, and the treatment works well" statements. NEVER the truth! Oh and by the way, 6 WEEKS passed with NO TREATMENTS administered- and then the patient died!! One day before the patiet passed a different doctor wanted to administer chemo. We were never given this option but were told we had to wait on test results to see if this patient was a good candidate for a certain type of chemo; so we waited and waited and waited; test results came in AFTER the patient died! All along there was another chemo that could have been started while we were waiting on the test results! The cancer could have responded to that chemo in the meantime while we waited, and waited, and waited! This patient was my dear mom; a fighter who had beaten stage 3 breast cancer 12 years prior with only a 15-25% chance of survival then. She was never given the opportunity by Dr. Leong or anyone at COH to fight this cancer. She had to push to even get the rude neurologist to order an MRI when she was having equilibrium issues. He told her no, and upon her insistance a week later he rudely replied "fine, what do you want." A few days later he called her to say she had metastasized brain cancer and he did not know the primary site. He called her and told her over the phone when she was home ALONE! He did not even ask if someone was there with her! My mom showed up for the battle...but never had the army show up with her! COH dismissed her and let her die without any treatment for the cancer. She told me she was ready to fight...COH never gave her the opportunity to do so. About two weeks before she died she told me she felt like COH had "thrown her to the wolves." This is the same woman who recommended COH and was one of their advocates based on her previous experience 12+ years ago. She waited on tests and procedures that never came, and never received ANY chemo treatments for her cancer. My dear, sweet, vivacious mom...thrown to the wolves and left to die! NOBODY should EVER be treated this way! EVERYONE deserves a chance to live! COH is in a money grubbing, bureaucratic mess and has lost their reputation, their efficiency, their standard of patient care, their ethics and their integrity. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone! If you want to fight your cancer and have a desire to live, or if you have a loved one you want the best treatment for, DO NOT seek treatment at COH! The price very well could be your/their life... unnecessarily! I hope by my taking the time to write this review that I have spared someone from the heartache and disappointment, and lies of the false advertising and claims made by COH!
