Dr. Luke Madigan, MD

My 76 year old father in law had back surgery about 10 years ago. In the last 2 years he was diagnosed and treated for kidney and bladder cancer. About a month ago he began having severe hip, back and leg pain. Was seen by this doctor and a PA and told 2 different things that were the problem. He had xrays and was scheduled for an MRI in about 2 weeks. Given a few pain meds. They were not helping. Ended up at the ER 3x and another appt with Madigan who then denied any more pain meds, stating he "broke the law" by taking 2 of the 5mg pills he was given. The 4th trip to the ER a caring doctor ordered the MRI that day and found a baseball size tumor on his spine. He is now in the hospital receiving relief for the pain and radiation for the tumor that was somehow missed. Very disgusted with how something like that was missed just a week or so ago.

Dr. Madigan gave me excellent caring advice about my surgery option to deal with my spinal compression at L4 and L5 and S1! The surgical outcome was a great success and recovery has been successful as well! I am glad, a good friend recommended Dr. Madigan and his team to provide my care!

I can't complain about the wait time because I barely got 3 to 5 minutes of his time and if you don't interrupt to ask a question you won't get a chance. I rated one star because there is not a zero. This was the worst waste of time I have ever had and absolutely no result of anything to help with my back. I'm very confused how another doctor in this group can do a MRI and see things around 10 years ago, treat them and now they don't see them on another MRI ? I strongly suggest to look elsewhere if you need help. He spent more time talking to staff about a old movie than I got going over a scan. I've waited 2 weeks to know as much about the MRI as I did before it was done. He told me to help it , set up and work on my posture! This was the biggest waste of my time and money. Never again.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Madigan! He took the much needed time to explain my diagnosis and recommended treatment. I did have to wait to see him, but when it was my turn I felt like he gave me his undivided attention and answered all of my questions. He was worth the wait! It was also very clear that he was an expert in his field. My surgery was successful, downtime minimal and I have to returned to all of my normal activities. I would highly recommend Dr. Madigan!

Dr Madigan is the rudest most arrogant doctor I have ever seen. I will never see him again. My problem was persistent neck pain. After P.T. did not work, he sent me for injections to see if an ablation would work. Apparently it would not .My main complaint with him is his lack of concern. He never greeted me with an introduction to who he was. After waiting for an hour to see him, he was in the room maybe 3 minutes. He told me to learn to live with my pain and difficulty turning my head. He abruptly said "wait here." He left the room. I thought he was going to maybe go and get a print out for neck exercises, stretches, etc. He never returned. He never said good by, good luck, come back if pain gets worse or anything. Staff came in and told me I was free to go. What a jerk he is.

Good at first! As soon as surgery is done you do not exist!!!

I’m very pleased with the care that I received from Dr Madigan and his team, especially Raven Bowers. At my initial visit Dr Madigan asked about my pain, my physical history, and explained that he needed an MRI to visualize what was wrong with my back. The MRI technician at the KOC facility was very friendly and made sure I was ok throughout the process. The MRI showed that I had a disc herniation at L4-5. Dr Madigan then explained my treatment options and recommended that I try a steroid injection first and gave me a list of stretches I could do at home. I was in too much pain to go to physical therapy. Dr Michael Craig and his team did the injection. They were very nice and made me feel as comfortable as possible. The first injection was successful so Dr Madigan suggested I try a second one. Unfortunately that one didn’t work for me. That’s just the way it is sometimes, no fault of either doctor. At my next follow up Dr Madigan explained that because I had been in constant pain for… almost 4 months with no sign of my herniation resolving without intervention it was time to consider surgery. He explained the procedure, the risks involved, and the recovery process thoroughly and I booked a microdiscectomy for 10 days later at the surgery center. I received a call a few days before surgery to give my family and I instructions and answer any questions I had. All of the medications I needed for post-surgery were called in the day before. Everyone at the surgery center was compassionate and highly skilled. Both my pre-op and post- op nurses were fantastic. I had no doubt I was in good hands. When I woke up from surgery the agonizing sciatic pain that had essentially disabled me for months was gone. Dr Madigan gave my family an update when surgery was over and went over more instructions. At my 2 week follow up a few days ago I was happy to report to Raven and Dr Madigan how well I was doing thanks to their care. Dr Madigan looked at my incision and asked if I had any pain or concerns. I was then referred to physical therapy which I will start soon. I will happily recommend Dr Madigan to anyone I know experiencing acute back pain.

Like others, I went to see Dr. Madigan and left feeling like this man is arrogant and treated me very poorly because of my weight. I was diagnosed with severe stenosis and told that I needed to try a epidural shot even though there was little hope of it working. The shot caused such severe pain that I was referred to Dr Madigan. I have not been able to do anything at all that I am not in severe pain. I can not sit, stand, walk, work, enjoy my children, go places or have any kind of a normal life. I can't even pick up my 2 year old. I work in industrial maintenance but have been out since the shot waiting on the appt with surgeon. Well today I went in thinking I would be scheduled for surgery and instead I was told to live with the pain, lose weight and go to 4 physical therapy appointments. I am so shocked that I don't know which way to turn. How can I work? I can't even walk! I can't afford to lose my job I have to support my family and this dr does not care at all. I plan on… getting a second opinion but what do I do in the meantime?

Dr. Madigan was dismissive of my SI and lumbar pain, which was understandable given what doctors have to deal with these days. But I was unable to sleep for days at the point that I came to him, and when I did, it was disrupted and painful. My QOL deteriorated quickly and I had to leave my job. I was given PT with a laugh. As an athlete, I was enthusiastic at PT. Didn't work. I have since gone to the other main ortho gig in town and they were not dismissive. A great Dr there was able to diagnose painful abnormalities on the KOC MRI that Madigan missed. Though multiple injections and another 35 PT sessions there didn't work, compassion goes a long way. Drs are never perfect in the technical side of diagnosing patients, but they can control the art of interaction with patients. Three stars lost for lack of bedside manner and compassion. I had another condition diagnosed there with results given by him, which he was dismissive of as well, that I've since had surgery to repair. For the… compassion, missed every mark...even involving diagnoses unrelated to the spine. Why even be such a way when you're simply relaying results and referring away? I actively do not recommend this doctor to anyone. It seems based upon the experience of others that *unless* you're a candidate for surgery very soon after seeing him, and he senses that at your first appt, you will receive the same treatment that I did, and your issue will not be resolved by him.
