Dr. Lyle Brant Amer, MD

I have seen Dr Amer for 20+ years. He’s thorough, kind, knowledgeable and thoughtful. He’s very busy because he believes in giving his patients the time they need when in an appointment. He has managed my multiple medical issues than any one else. He is definitely worth the wait, and; although appointments are out two to three months, he does better than most.

Prescribes pain pills like candy and has to make specialist referrals because he has no clue what he’s doing. Disorganized, arrogant and disinterested. Shouldn’t be in practice! Don’t come here!

This doctor should not be practicing medicine - does not return calls, loses lab reports and files, and oh yes, THEY ARE NOT COMPUTERIZED - USE PAPER FILES!!! Have to wait for an appointment approximately 6-8 weeks and wait room packed with minimum of hour(s) long waiting. RUN!!

Spends lots of time talking but reality of his care is total disorganization of paper work cannot find reports, passes files for followup to NP who does not call patient, misplaces reports and is prone to give meds and referrals to specialists. Wait time is insane - 1-2 hours generally.

Dr. Amer is thorough and caring. He is worth the wait.

If you like unreasonable wait times with an appointment (average = 1 1/2 - 2 hours), not cuz he is so great just because he is soo unfocused, and has no control of nor idea about sound and efficient office management practices; rambling dialogue about lab results, etc. which 50% of the time he never has in the file, and if you like a doctor that seems too afraid to practice that he refers the smallest issues to a specialist this is the doctor for you. My humble opinion...he is burned out but cannot retire because of family issues.

Never ever returns phone calls. Impossible to get an appointment in less than 6 months. Does not seem to care about patients wellbeing.

I've been seeing Dr. Amer for about 12 years now. In the beginning, I found him to be very patient and compassionate. But these days, he has appeared to become very impatient, stressed and rude. He often times acts as if I am bothering him, by merely just being his patient. I'm not one of those patients that is constantly calling the office and pestering. But in the past 12 years, I have called his office twice with questions. And he treats me rudely by not letting me speak and he is quick to assume, about what I am calling him about. This is where the office staff also comes in. It appears to me, that when a patient calls with concerns, the office staff does not give Dr. Amer, clarification, on what the message is about. Office staff has always been snobby and rude for all 12 years, that I've been there. They make you feel like your an immigrant, showing up for commodities, or make you feel like your invisible to them. Dr. Amer has too much on his plate. He needs to also… schedule less patients per day. The wait times are incredibly ridiculous. I usually wait 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours, for a scheduled appointment. That's worse than the MVD. No ill person should have to wait that long to see a doctor. A doctor that appears stressed and that I have witnessed, arguing with patients, or as he may call it (frustration). Yes, he does apologize alot, because he is always late, takes phone calls during the visit, and also for being rude. But frankly, I'm done with that, so I will be searching for a new doctor, even if it's out-of-town. Hopefully, Dr. Amer reads this, and realizes that his service as a doctor is not as good as it used to be and figures out what he can do to be not only an excellent doctor, but also an excellent person. And the office staff, well, they have alot to work on. Customer service, without the snobbyness, being the first thing. This is Santa Fe, New Mexico, a very small city. No need to go to those lengths of being extra snobby and fake, as people might tend to be in a much larger city. Be real and improve service, both doctor and staff, just as you would do to improve a product.

What I liked is Dr Amer is a doctor in demand & when recommended I setup appointment a couple of mos down the road asked to be placed on a list in case of cancellation. I was called soon after & went in - doctor was running late & called me personally to apologize for running late once I saw him he was able to diagnose my problems & a couple of things I forgot. He is very caring & understanding & extremely detailed. I am set up for numerous tests. I went to same doctor prior to Dr Amer for 18yrs & lately felt like just a patient # & patient care was going down hill. I am very happy now & the staff I've delt with so far have been great! I will remain his patient & I can only Thank the person that sent me his way. As far as office furniture etc I'd rather have his care than a beautiful fancy building - my health means more. I thank them from the heart.

Doctor mis-diagnosed me, and told me there was nothing to do for my problem. Another doc started physical therapy, and problem cleared up with therapy. Also, staff didn't respond to calls, wouldn't schedule appt for an emergency, and I ended up 3 days in the hospital for something that could have been handled quickly in the office.
