Some tips if you are treated by Dr. McFarr or at CBT California: 1. Get a copy of anything you sign: consents, updated consents, behavioral contracts, etc. Save them. 2. If Dr. McFarr asks you to sign an "updated consent" ask her if she is in fact terminating and restarting treatment. GET HER ANSWER IN WRITING. Why does this matter? Let's say therapy doesn't go as planned or ends on a bad note and you want to access your progress notes. By law, a provider is only required to keep the notes for 7 years after the patient's termination date. If a patient doesn't know that treatment has been terminated and restarted, s/he does not know when the clock starts ticking on the seven years. 3. Ask Dr. McFarr about her record-keeping security. I recently asked for my notes and she informed me via email they had been "accidentally shredded" due to "clerical error." I am not sure who had access to my notes but someone did and they destroyed them. 4. Save any and all correspondence with Dr. McFarr… (emails, texts, etc.)

Therapy with Dr. McFarr (through her private practice) resulted in a significant deterioration in my functioning. I am now seeing a new therapist twice a week to process what happened in treatment with her. It seems from the reviews that clients either view her as life-changing or detrimental. Unfortunately for me, it was the latter.
