Matthew Tyrrell Burrus, MD

TLDR: Best of the best. Dr. Burrus is a solid orthopedic surgeon. Expert, informative, doesn’t talk over your head, great communicator and supportive start to finish. My son is doing *so well* post the MPFL knee-reconstruction surgery he had recently. The Deets: My 14 y.o. had a tricky knee that would go out on him whenever he pushed himself in basketball or strenuous legwork. I’d made an appointment, not knowing much of anything about Dr. Burrus, other than seeing a laundry list of credentials and glowing reviews. All legit. 10/10 on all points, from surgical outcomes to bedside manner, minus fluff. From the start, he shot from the hip and laid things out. While he never explicitly told us what to choose, he consistently presented clear options and associated outcomes. This helped guide my next steps as a parent. Surgery went exceptionally smooth and my son is healing ahead of schedule. My boy started PT 3 days post-op…which I thought was aggressive. He was given a goal of… bending his knee at 90 degrees within 4 weeks. Surgery was on a Tuesday, first PT appointment was Friday of the same week. He measured at 35% bend at session #1. Session #2, next Tuesday—no lie, PT measured him at *77%* flexibility!!! I thank GOD!!! I was shocked! BTW, he ditched pain meds EOD #5 post op…said he didn’t need them. 3 weeks post-op, 2 of the 3 surgical incisions on my son’s knee are so skinny and light they look like little scratches. …and, his staff is just as supportive and responsive as he is. Special shout out to Ricky. If ever in need of a skilled orthopedic surgeon, I highly recommend Dr. Burrus for help. Am so grateful we have him in our corner!
