Dr. Makeba Lanell Williams, MD

I sought care from Dr. Williams because of our shared age and racial background, hoping for empathy and understanding around menopause. Unfortunately, I left each visit feeling dismissed and unheard. She talked over me, dismissed my symptoms and history, and implied that medication prescribed by a previous doctor was somehow my fault. She corrected my use of widely accepted HRT terms and showed little interest in collaborative care. When I declined to be interviewed by a medical resident due to a prior negative experience she ignored my request and stated, "This is the way I work. There is no other option." I felt my boundaries and lived experience were completely disregarded. I had hoped to find a supportive, culturally sensitive physician, but instead felt silenced and devalued. I share this to encourage more patient-centered and respectful care, especially for women navigating complex health transitions.

I first described numerous perimenopause symptoms to two staff who demonstrated that they were listening and cared what I had to say. Next came a doctor, who also appeared to listen and show some care. Then came Dr. Makebah Williams, who was dismissive and seemed to want to get me out of her office as quickly as possible, without examining me. I insisted on an examination and advocated to receive a particular prescription, which she agreed to. But nothing that was discussed made it into my after-visit summary, or was sent to my primary care team. I don't recommend seeing Dr. Williams if you are in perimenopause, as she appears to only be interested in post-menopausal patients.

I met Dr Williams almost 9 years ago when she practiced at KU Med Ctr, For someone like me who was turning 50 I must say she was the best OB/GYN I have had. She didn't assumed I knew things. She explained things to me and handed me print out so I could read more. She was kind and did not rush.

Dr. Makeba Williams is an excellent doctor. I love her beside manner and she is always there for you. She calls you and or is always pleasant when you call her. She is always available for you day or night no matter the time. It has been a long time since I have have met with a doctor of her caliber.

my over all experience with dr williams is great i dont feel comfortable with any other ob shes sweet and caring and firm about her work she always worries if ur in pain and how ur doing without even being told i love her to peices

Dr. Williams is a really great doctor. She was my gyno for my pregnancy with my son. She is still my gyno til this day. She is very nice and kind. She also knows what she is doing. I would completely recomend her. She makes you feel very comfortable. And as ladies know for a gyno that can be kind of uncomfortable.
