Dr. Manuel Andres Martinez, MD

This is more a review of Dr Martinez who is part of Orthopedic Associates than anything else (if they let this guy do what he did then I'm sure Orthopedic Associates lets other doctors act like this). I have never in my life met such a verbally aggressive, ill-compassionate, ill-perspicuous, and physically aggressive doctor. This doctor seemed to care more about leaving work on time then caring about his patient and my hip pain. From the first time he came in the room; he in an accusatory tone asked, "so what is the problem!?" He had just reviewed the X-Rays of my hip before he came in, so he knew what was going on; but immediately started not treating me like a patient, but as a problem. He began to fire off questions extremely rapidly, I felt like I was being questioned like I had committed a crime! He began asking in a vociferous way for exact details, which I couldn't even finish saying before he could blurt out another question. I served in the Army starting in 2003 and he… immediately reminded me of a drill sergeant from Basic Training, that's how unbelievable this was. (FYI, I'm not some precious snow flake when it comes to doctors, I have Crohn's disease and have been hospitalized many times with interactions with countless doctors. My gastro doc has horrible bed side manner but he's a life saver, I know when to put up with "mean doctors" but Dr Martinez makes my gastro doc look like a saint) We moved on to the physical examination and he started ordering me to move here, move there, does this hurt!? does that hurt!? (this is all happening very rapidly) Then when he would find a place that hurt he just applied more pressure and didn't let off; this guy was hurting me! At this point I finally spoke up and said "What the heck are you doing?! Is this some kind of assembly line!?" he backed off when I said this, and I explained he was putting me in extreme pain. He didn't seem to care about this and immediately turned him putting me in pain back on to me! Stating "This is the first time I've ever met you!" as if this was some excuse for the way he was treating me. I desperately wanted some relief from this hip pain, stuck my tail in between my legs and APOLOGIZED TO HIM, knowing this would be the only way I would got a shot into my hip to hopefully end the pain. After the physical examination he quickly described what I had using nothing but medical jargon (Something Bursitis... but never explaining what any of those things even are (thanks Google! I learned later)) explaining nothing about what is wrong with my hip in common parlance. He then presented me with options, steroids, physical therapy, and Cortisone injection (all of this is still happening at a rapid pace). I then have to ask him "well... what do you recommend", in my mind I'm asking why he is asking me this?! I'm not a doctor! He happily recommends the shot to which I accept. After a nurse drops off the essentials for the Cortisone shot he comes back in and gives it to me. He says some unintelligible words about Physical Therapy, leaves a piece of paper on the desk in the room, and leaves. I have no idea what even to do at this point and put my clothes back on to wander about the building with no idea what to do with the Physical therapy order he has written. On a positive note the receptionists at Orthopedic Associates are very nice and were very helpful! So, to recap, I did ultimately get help from Dr Martinez, but not until I was interrogated, painfully prodded to excess, ill-informed, and shunned. If Orthopedic Associates can let mad doctors like Dr Martinez practice there then I wouldn’t trust anyone from that group.

Dr. Martinez has always been very complete it his examination . He explains everything completely. I am very impressed with the care I receive.
