Dr. Margaret Leigh Wright

I’m sharing this review based on our experience with Dr. Wright as the first orthopedic sports medicine specialist my son saw for a significant knee injury. After evaluation, she ordered an MRI, which showed lateral patellar subluxation with significant knee effusion. The initial treatment plan recommended was conservative management with only physical therapy. At my request, a knee aspiration was performed, which had not initially been presented as an option. While my son experienced some very short-term relief after the aspiration, his symptoms continued. He still had persistent pain, and his knee continued to worsen, eventually beginning to buckle and give out despite following the recommended plan. We also felt there was limited consideration given to the level of sport and the importance of a full return to high-level function, as he plays competitive soccer. Because there was no sustained improvement and his symptoms were worsening, we sought a second opinion with another… orthopedic specialist. That provider took a different approach, immediately noting that my son’s presentation did not fully align with the original diagnosis and that there could potentially be another underlying cause. Further evaluation ultimately revealed an injury that required surgical treatment. He went on to have surgery and has since recovered extremely well, returning to full activity without pain. In hindsight, we feel the initial diagnosis and treatment plan did not fully capture the underlying issue or the urgency needed for an athlete at his level, which ultimately led us to seek additional care. We are grateful we did, as it resulted in the correct diagnosis and successful treatment.
