I would not recommend her at all

Doctor Lucarelli is very thorough and takes time to educate you about how to manage your overall health.

I was not happy with the way I was treated by Dr. Lucarelli. My Primary Doc of 12+ years is in Manhattan and it’s difficult for me to get there when I have a sinus or respiratory infection since I no longer travel to Manhattan so, I needed to find a new doctor. I filled out the standard forms that ask which meds you currently take and waited to be seen. Dr. Lucarelli is friendly and smiling as she greeted me. Then we went to the room so she can do an interview on my health and background. Which I liked because she actually took time with me and I didn’t feel rushed. Here’s where the uneasy part comes in. She starts asking me the reason for my visit as she’s glancing over my forms.... I start explaining I was looking looking for a doctor on the island and how I’ve had a never ending allergy/sinus infection and she starts freaking out and cuts me off saying “you take Valium? I won’t prescribe that to you, why do you take this? I refuse to prescribe any of these… medications to anyone. Are you sure you want to continue this visit ? Maybe you should see someone else because You just can’t stop taking these”. She seemed to be in a panicked state and I couldn’t believe a doctor was carrying on like this. Without asking the reason I was taking them she instead asked if I ever tried Therapy and rambled on again about how Valium isn’t something she’s comfortable with. I sensed she was being cautious about the drug epidemic on the island but she seemed too nervous too me. But I informed her that my Manhattan doctor of 12 years told me to take them as needed and it’s not necessary to take daily. But I am allowed to take up to 15mg a day if I need it. Which I never have and a one month supply lasts well over a month for me. I then asked if she could refer me to a physician who could prescribe them even if she feels it should be administered under a certain kind of doctor rather than a primary. And she freaked out again saying she does not get involved with anyone who prescribed those kinds of medications. And again asked if I wanted to continue the visit. She seemed like she didn’t want to continue with me but I informed her that I wasn’t here to get a Valium script and I have a sinus infection which is slowly giving me an upper respiratory infection- which I used to get constantly. So she proceeded with the visit and was quite througough and I almost hoped she didn’t look at me differently and forgot about my Valium. She said I was fine and to take allergy meds - even though I said I took 3 different kinds for one month now and it’s not going away. The visit was over and I left. And what do you know? 2-3 days later I have an upper respiratory infection and have problems breathing.- exactly what I was trying to avoid. I do not recommend going to this doctor who panics at the mention of a controlled drug - even when you tell her you take it as needed and not daily - and I told her i neeeded release form So she can get my medical records from my previous doctor. Why ask a patient to be honest and write down their current scripts only to ask them if they want to continue the visit because SHE clearly is not comfortable with your mediations?

Great doctor! Passionate, caring and extremely thorough. Always a long wait, unfortunately.
