Dr. Maria Pena

I went to Dr Maria Pena for a first time visit to a new practice she just joined, the Edward M. Condon practice. She was very knowledgeable and offered her expertise regarding my condition. She had my blood drawn and also a sonogram done. (The tech who did the blood and sono was very kind). The plan was for me to have a follow up tele visit to discuss my blood and sono results. So far great experience with this office. Unfortunately, this is where my positive experience took another direction. The day of my appt I did not receive a call, I followed up and spoke with a staff member named Melanie. She informed me there are sometimes issues with the phone appts and would reschedule, which she did. Again, for a 2nd time I never received a call. I called again a day or so later to follow up and was told by this same office staff person named Melanie that it was my fault because they tried to call me numerous times and it went straight to vm and because I took up 2-3 appt slots I was… “dismissed” from the practice. I’ve never even heard of such a term when referring to a doctors office. I was so confused because I couldn’t understand why I did not receive the calls she said were made and I really wanted to discuss my results. After a back and forth conversation with this individual Melanie, who was not pleasant at all I checked my phone and for some reason I had the number for the doctors office blocked ( probably because I get so many spam calls I block unknown numbers often) total mistake on my end. Once I realized I explained this to Melanie and again in a very matter of fact, not helpful manner I was told that this is office policy and she would speak to the manager to see if I can be put back as a patient. I was totally shocked and have never had an experience such as this. I asked her if Dr. Pena can please call me and if she is aware that this is how patients are being treated. Unfortunately, the doctor never called me and it's been several days and I also requested the manager to call, which I also never heard from. So while Dr Pena seemed to be a doctor I would recommend, unfortunately the office staff member by the name of Melanie turned my experience into something other than that. Hopefully this review is seen by this office and the doctors there reevaluate who they have answering the phone and interacting with patients.
