Dr. Mark Lee Blough, PhD

I was seen way back in 1996 in the Monroe County Youth facility by Dr. Blough. I was a troubled and hurt teenager a the time but he helped me put my issues to rest and move on with my life for the better! He is a wonderfull Doctor and needs to know how much he has really helped me! Dr Blough used severe verbal abuse and double binds ("gamey" behavior, in his lingo, but these "games" are not fun) without provocation. This appeared to be his way of dealing with his own issues. He thinks acting out is being "real", but research on therapy cults finds no support for emotional abuse of clients.

Very, very abrasive and hostile, uses obscene language. After 4 sessions I finally had enough after he said "get the f*** out". I wasn't being difficult either. Walked out after that comment and he says I still have to pay, and that was only 3 minutes of the session time. He said numerous times that "I wasn't going to like him" and "I wasn't going to trust him". Isn't that how it works? - I confide in a licensed, professional therapist (who I'm paying $125/pop he doesn't accept insurance) and I'm truly looking for help and he tells me, a few times as a matter of fact, that I'm not going to trust him??

Tells you what you need to hear, not necessarily what is easy to hear. Above all, Dr. Blough made me into a much more disciplined individual and made me realize that my own cleverness was hurting my growth, success, and emotional development at times. I learned to temper my cleverness with maturity and wisdom, through Dr. Blough's coaching. Indeed, as Fyodor Dostoyevsky once said, it takes something more than intelligence to act intelligently, and Dr. Blough was the one who made me realize this once and for all. He told me to look for the truth and understand better who to trust.

He worked differently - Kinda like he worked from the insode out not the outside in. He did not tell me what to do but helped me work ot the issues.
