Dr. Mark Jeffrey Kupersmith, MD

Awful experience. I had high hopes because of this doctor's expertise, but he was rude, combative, dismissive and unnecessarily cruel. He spent more time trashing his colleagues and their "idiocy" than looking at the details of my pain and vision issues. He might be a genius, but he clearly doesn't value people's humanity or feelings. He flat out told me "I don't care what patients have to say", after asking me questions and admitted that he was making recommendations without looking at my medication list. Avoid this guy unless your case is so complex that you have no choice.

I had no chance to appreciate the knowledge of Dr Mark J. Kupersmith MD, because he canceled the consultation before it started, even though I came particularly to see him, as neuro-ophthalmologist for my rear eye orbit condition. Without looking on me, he made conclusion that my condition is not related to neuro-ophthalmology. That decision was based on my head MRI, that was given to him by resident ophthalmologist, who examined me. Dr Kupersmith recommended me (through resident) to see him in his private office, (where he does not accept my insurance, means for cash payment). I think I escaped to see one ugly greedy face, who will do nothing, just get my money. The fanny part is that I was sitting in that office waiting to see him for 4 hours. He saw me sitting there, and pretended that he was not he, but somebody else. I did not know how he looked, I found it out now, when I looked online. I will address my question to Health Dept of NYC: do they check doctors for their mental… health condition time to time? They should, because some of them do not look healthy. It is dangerous to put your health in such hands.

As a neurophthalmologist, you’d think the doctor would listen to the patient’s symptoms, but he doesn’t. Came for a second opinion and he immediately agreed with the previous diagnosis. Didn’t look at the MRI himself. Took a semi-personal call toward the end of the visit, which we felt was his signal for us to get out. Condescending and rude. I would be OK with handling those personality traits in exchange for expertise and a thorough exam/diagnosis, but both were lacking.

His assistant gets you into the exam room pretty close to your appt. but more often than not it takes Dr. Kupersmith awhile to get in. That being said, he's a wonderful Dr. and attention to detail is rarely found these days.

If you get to see Dr. Kupersmith you're in good hands.

I had a very complex problem that no eye specialist could treat. Dr. Kupersmith was the only one to figure it out. For that, I have to give him 5 stars. He is excellent.

I was taken on an emergency basis with symptoms of temporal arteritis - Dr K's excellent staff arranged for a next-day surgery...Took such good care of me that I will never be able to thank them properly for their efficiency, concern, respect and no-nonsense expertise. They have taken a further interest in sening me to a rheumatologist - again, making all necessary calls for me. What can I say - THANK YOU!

I find some of these negative reviews about Dr. K very odd, as I always walk out of his office feeling like I've just seen a doctor who deserves the esteemed reputation he has in the field. Perhaps folks are turned off by the fact he is busy and a straight shooter. There is little time for nonsense and small talk (as with any good doctor these days). He diagnosed my MS 10 years ago from the same MRI's two other neurology professionals had read as "normal" and sent me to a MS specialist right away to confirm the diagnosis. He always takes the time to explain everything as well as answer my questions with far more direct honesty than any other physician I've ever seen, and I've seen alot! Highly recommend.
