Dr. Mark David Niehaus, MD

He and the other practitioners at his facility were always willing to answer questions. Friendly, knowledgeable, & helpful staff. Niehaus is very down to earth and practical. Unfortunately we had to move out of the area, but I will return soon and hope Niehaus and their team have room in their schedule for us again! :)

Both myself and my wife have been his patients for a number of years and are extremely happy with his care.

Dr Niehaus takes the time to listen and find out what is really going on. It's nice to have a doctor that really cares and to not feel rushed in and out.

The single best doctor I have ever met. He spends time and displays a depth of knowledge that is truly impressive.

Dr. Niehaus spent a lot of time with me to try to figure out what was going on. I suspect that he spends a lot of time with each patient because of the long wait. It is worth it though. I would rather wait on a doctor that is going to actually sit down and listen, then have one that is rushing in and out of the examining room.

I LOVE our doctor, mark neihous. But the office staff is RUDE, cold, uncaring. I always feel like I am 'bothering' them. And, since my husband and I have been coming there for 10 years, seems to me that the office would have the common courtesy of calling me if I have a bill balance before sending me to a collection agency! I had only received the bill about 10 days before I got a letter from an agency. BAD!

He's exceptional.

Let me start off by saying that I am very skeptical of most doctors and I lean towards natural remedies before reaching out to western medicine. Both of my parents are in the medical field and I've studied as an herbalist.Dr. Niehaus is the best general practice doctor I have ever met, hands down. We found him when we were looking for a pediatrician for our first child ... he is a general practice, family doctor BUT he has 3 young children of his own and he comes from a large family himself.What really made our decision was the amount of time he took with us. When he walks into the room he acts as if he has all day to speak with you and you are his primary concern. I'm sure that when he walks out of the room he is faced with plenty of high-paced stresses but that never translates into his bedside manner ... so many doctors have a hurried pace about them.We were first time parents and worried about everything. Niehaus was so loving and understanding of the place in life we were at ... I… will never forget when he came to the hospital to check out our son the day we were being discharge to go home. He said, "Today a lot of things will be happening for you, but you should take some time to really enjoy this special day. You will never bring your firstborn home for the first time again. Make it special and enjoy every moment." He is a really good person and you can tell that he really cares about everyone.Not only is Dr. Niehaus incredibly smart he really takes the time with you to get to know you and learn what you need. He loves explaining the "why" on his medical decisions. He interacts so naturally with our children (now 4 years and 2 years) ... we loved him so much that we followed him to another practice almost an hour away. Our children pretend to be Doctor "knee house" LOL!Most of the nurses that work with him are ok. One or two of them are below average and one or two of them are way above average.The other doctors in his practice are also a cut above the rest, we've had to use them on occasion when one of the children are sick and Niehaus isn't available and I've been pleased. Family Medicine of Albemarle is a cut above your typical family doctor ... they have high standards.Also I should mention that I wanted to administer my children's vaccines on a different schedule than the typical way (I like to have my children only getting 1-2 at a time and start at a later age when their immune systems are more developed, which means more scheduling and coordinating). Niehaus has always been 100% supportive of my decisions and offers any research/information that might be applicable.Another time my son was very sick from a vomiting/diarrhea virus (he was 2 years old) and unable to hold any fluids down for a few days. It was a Friday afternoon and I wanted to avoid the risk of going into the ER for dehydration over the weekend At first Niehaus said that I should just continue to watch my son but after spending 15 minutes with my son Niehaus turned to me and said, "Look I trust a mother's intuition more than what I think, if you think that he needs fluids I agree." My son ended up getting about half a liter of fluids (a lot for a little guy) and didn't urinate until the next morning (showing how dehydrated he really was) ... and he continued having vomiting/diarrhea for the next 3 days. If Niehaus hadn't taken the time to listen to me and really watch my son we would have ended up in the ER over the weekend. And in the end, mother's intuition WAS right ... when do you ever hear a doctor say that from their own mouth?The last time we were in for a well check for my daughter Niehaus started talking about the importance of music and the music that he listens to with his children. As we were leaving the office he flagged me down, he had printed off a few suggestions of Kids CDs that we should look into. Now what doctor cares that much? (and believe me, he is busy ... I'm NOT the only one that thinks he's great)I couldn't give enough praise for Dr. Niehaus, we love him so much that my husband and I have talked about switching to him as our own doctor!
