Dr. Mark Alan Sivak, MD

Very nice and professional

yesterday we are have very bad experience with Dr.Sivak. My husband had an appointment at 8:30 am. We waited in a freezing cold room until 12:30p. When I finally started to look for the doctor, Dr Sivak came into the room and was very nasty. The Dr didn't even introduce himself. The experience was HORRIBLE!

He and his staff never get back to you, then when you do get to see him its not that impressive. He talks more to himself than he does you and when you leave , your not sure why you even came. Don't waste time, find someone else. Mt Sinia should be embarrassed with the way this group treats patience and the lack of respect for our time.

Doesn’t return phone calls regarding request for test results after almost 2 months. He doesn’t seem interested in listening and didn’t ask if I had any questions. Go to another neurologist. Don’t waste your time and money with Sivak. There are other very good neurologists at Sinai.

Very disappointing. 5 weeks after testing in the office they never bothered to get test results to me or the referring doctor, even after several calls to the office. However, they pay careful attention to billing and making sure he gets paid. Would give zero stars, but that’s not an option here. Complete waste of time and money. Don’t bother. Go somewhere else.

We, too, were disgusted with Dr. Sivak's treatment of my mother's illness. You can try Dr. Betty Mintz (also of Mt. Sinai) who is an honest, caring, wonderful physician and who specializes in Myasthenia Gravis and other neuromuscular diseases. She is in the profession for the right reasons--to help and heal people.

There are several other neurologists in NYC who are just as expert in Myasthenia Gravis as Dr. Sivak and have far better personalities. I don't know why he bothers - he seems to particularly dislike female patients.

Extremely negative impression over a period of two years due to very bad bed manners. I know he is a great specialist in his area. I approach an upcoming visit to him as a torture. The very first time I came I had a very strong urge to slam a door and leave after I was not allowed to express my concerns for the first 45 min as he could not log on, "the computer was not working", etc. I felt like i was nobody and nothing to him. I was never allowed to tell my story. I was dictating it to him. Miserable experience. Dr. Sivak did not respond to my call for 10 days! I called his nurse twice to remind, and was rebuked each time and made feel guilty. I wish I could go to somebody else, but he is considered the best in his area of expertise in NYC!

My personal, experience-based guess regarding this doctor is that he may possibly treat a person well only if he likes them and/or stands to gain public brownie-points for doing so, and that he may get away with this kind of arrogant, immature and unprofessional favoritism because of his prestigious reputation which is based, in part, on the fact that there are very few doctors--even in NYC--who deal in his particular area of neurololgical expertise. The disparity in the rest of his web-based reviews would appear to bear this out. There are much better neurologists/physicians than he in Manhattan who are also experts in the types of diseases that he supposedly so excels in, and my advice is to seek them out and not to endanger anyone's well-being by finding out whether this doctor feels like giving you his best-- or his least. Any "neglect" perpetrated on a patient by a member of the medical profession can be fatal. I am so sorry to say that I have to agree with all the negative… comments that have been posted about him.
