Dr. Mary Ann Thenganatt, MD

In reading other low ratings, after seeing this doctor, I feel they were unfair. She was to-the-point and professional. Not a glad-hander or Sally Sunshine, but she did a thorough neurological exam and was able to verify my diagnosis and offer all alternatives to treat my issue. She offered the positives and negatives for all possible treatments and made sensible recommendations. As far as "phone calls" Penn Medicine has a robust online communications portal that minimizes back and forth phone tag. If the folks giving the negative ratings were web-savvy enough to leave a crummy rating, they should have used the communications portal to effectively communicate their needs.

Dr. Thenganatt told mom two years ago that she had Parkinsons. If she had read the MRI report from 2017, she would have seen the radiologists diagnosis of normal hydrocephalus. At our first appointment, this doctor told mom, "Don't call me, I don't take phone calls". We should have known at that point she was not a good doctor. I guess because she's at Penn, we assumed she was one of the best. I worked for 22 years at a medical school in Philadelphia and there is no way this cold woman would have passed 3rd year clinical skills with the manner in which she speaks to patients and their families. This was echoed by the neurologist who finally made the diagnosis. Sometimes its not about how smart the doctor is....it's about the people skills. This doc is going to destroy the Movement Disorder Program at Penn. She is so smug and ignorant of the impact of her words on the lives of patients and families. She is a major liability for Penn. I just hope someone knocks her off her… high horse and lets her know she is a failure as a doctor.

I waited for an appointment for 3 months for my husband, 20 minutes later we were dismissed!! I tried to reach her no return calls for a week later. She is absolutely the worst Doctor I have ever come across!!! She should not be seeing patients!!

I visited the office of Dr. Thenhganatt and was very quickly impressed with her thourough exam, her ability to diagnostic the problem and her professional manner.

This doctor has no bedside manner at all ... someone needs to teach her that the sick people that go to see her need her support - not "I don't care" attitude. She cannot be reached by phone or email at all, and just generally doesn't seem to care about the well-being of her patients. To get an appt. with her is always a one to two month wait. I just hope she knows what she's doing ... this is my Essential Tremor body we're talking about.

Dr T was indifferent to my pain and symptoms, disregarded all of the lab results that I had brought from my previous specialists to assist her in my diagnosis. She was rude and, this is a first for me with a doctor, acted stuck up and haughty through out my appointment! When she told me she doesn't treat my diagnosis, she said the name of a doctor that she recommended very quickly, and I asked for that doctors card or contact info she told me to google it! The nurse and I stood there astonished as she walked away!
