Mary Ellen Leary, MD

Dr. Leary was dismissive and quick to make judgments. Did not recognize concerns I had. I will be seeking a new OBGYN.

I would give Dr. Leary a zero rating if I was able. She saw me in the hospital after I delivered twins and was struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety. She told me and I quote, "Give yourself a Stern talking to". Thankfully my husband was in the room to verify that I had not lost my mind about what she said. What she failed to notice is that I am a licensed mental health professional and knew what she said was absolutely wrong. I can't imagine what women who don't know how to advocate for themselves feel if that was the response she gave them. It's been almost 6 years and this is the experience that stands out after the birth of my children. I guess if you're thin and have no complications you may like her. Until I read reviews did I realize she's fat phobic, so that may have contributed too. It's not holding your hand to treat mental health symptoms. She is just negligent.

Had an appointment with Mary Ellen Leary for a hysterectomy consultation. I walked in the door and she instantly looked at me and stopped me from talking. Told me she had looked at my chart the day prior and she knew she wasn't going to give me the surgery. She stated she was too conservative for me and I needed to find a new liberal doctor. If she knew prior to me getting there she wasn't going to allow it I'm not sure why her office didn't call and cancel instead of charging me for a visit I was in for barely 2 minutes and didn't get to speak my opinions or reasons in. Apparently ovarian cysts that repeat every two weeks and have been giving me extreme abdominal pain to the point where I've been in the ER multiple times, isn't a good enough reason to have this issue taken care of. I do not suggest seeing this doctor.

If you are part of the LGBTQ+ community, DO NOT SEE DR. LEARY. About 1 minute after the nurse who took my vitals left, Dr. Leary walked in with a packet and didn't bother to sit down. She said that I probably have PCOS and asked if I knew what that was. I said not really and she just handed me the packet and told me to read it later. Still not explaining what PCOS is, she then scheduled me for blood work and ultrasound, not explaining what blood work or why. I'm trans and have been trying to get on hormones for months and had mention that. She was questioning me on the process to get on hormones and said it's not right that it's so easy (she was stern and it felt like an interrogation). She should be more educated if she is going to be treating patients. Before I left she told me to "not forget my lady parts because they will always be there" (Which was really transphobic and unprofessional). After waiting a long time for a letter from her stating whether or not it was safe for me to… start on hormones, we finally got it and instead of answering that she said "I don't feel comfortable starting them on hormones," even though she wouldn't even be the one prescribing it. From my experience, she was very transphobic and unprofessional. She shouldn't be treating patients if she's going to let her personal feelings get in the way of patient care.

Dr. Leary is the best and the staff is great too.

Rude. Rude. Spent 10 minutes with her and I will not be back.

Dr. Leary is a really wonderful doctor. She doesn't try to rush you through your appointments, and she takes as much time as you need to explain your issues.

I have seen Dr. Leary for years and in addition to my own children I have been in the room and observed 6 births. She is a professional and will give it to you straight. She is not a sugar coater or a hand holder. She is excellent and always asks about my kids when I visit. I would highly reccomend.

Getting in to see Dr. Leary was virtually impossible...for almost 2 years in a row, I was forced to see a nurse practioner because the good doctor was too busy....One year, was on antibiotics for a severe flu/broncitis, and like clockwork, developed a yeast infection. I tried to get medication from Dr. Leary's office, and was told that I would have to make an 'appointment' to see the doctor before they would send in a prescription to eliminate it. I vote NO for Dr. Leary
