Dr. Mary Self, MD

I just read a few previous reviews for Dr Self that were less than kind. This really surprises me because my mother and I both go to Dr Self and we're very happy with her. We've been patients of hers for many years and she's always been professional and personable. She spends the needed time with us, answering all of our questions, because she genuinely cares about her patients. All of the support staff that we've encountered have all also been just as professional and personable, as well.

I have been a patient of Dr. Self's for over 20 years. I have always found her to be very informed and have always received very good care and management of my diabetes. She genuinely care about me as a patient and works diligently with me to achieve the be out come possible.

Dr. Self is no longer my physician and that's a good thing. Although I tried to be very polite with her, I found her difficult to read. Part of the difficulty is her sense of humor. I'd share her comments, but I feel awkward just quoting them. I guess I would say that she is sarcastic, maybe sardonic. I'm glad she isn't my physician. I think she is somewhat knowledgeable, but when I changed physicians, I gained a greater respect for the endocrinology field. It appeared to me and another person that her medical assistant has a tremendous amount of power and that Dr. Self is very loyal to her. That's important to know if you are the kind of person who likes to know about office politics in order to up your chances of getting better care. When Dr. Self made a mistake on my prescription one of the office staff wrote on the prescription sheet and corrected it. That was surprising! One of the lab techs was very good and the other was a terrible stick! If you choose Dr.… Self, you'll learn quickly which one is much, much better.

This is a wonderful Dr, she has a no nonsense approach and is scary smart in the best way.

I was referred to Dr. Self by another physician. After a week of trying to get an appointment the referring Physician office was told Dr. Self is reviewing my information and would get back to them and let them know if she would "take" me or not. Obviously Dr. Self isnt in the business of seeing patients. I found this process not only absurd, but also offending. I promptly called Dr. Selfs office and let them know becaue of the process I no longer wanted to see this Doctor, and I use that term lightly. I have been suffering for months whilst trying to get in to this office with a "doctor" that has a God complex... NO THANK YOU. Do not waste your time with this mess! There's to many caring Physicians in this town to have to put up with this mess of a office. All you have to do is read her reviews to determine how awful she is! I'm actually thankful I found out before getting involved

Bad experience. Don’t go to her as she will spend just 2 minutes with you and suggest a series of lab results!!!!!!

She does mit know how to help Hashimotos patients and is dismissive of ongoing symptoms despite t4 in a range she feels is right. Never runs a full thyroid pandl or looks at antibodies. Never has a suggestion to help lower autoimmune response to feel better. In fact she actually told ME how I was feeling (good, of course) baded on mt tsh. Just forget it. It was a waste of money. Paid all out of pocket. Just go to a gp if that's all the help i get fighting this debilitating disease...

I really looked forward ro my appt with this specialist. And then.....I was deeply disappointed. I saw her once, had a bunch of labs, and a thyroid ultrasound. It took me WEEKS to get my results and only then did i get them from a medical asst. No follow up at all with the dr. The MA couldnt answer basic questions and advised me to follow up with my primary doctor. I have an autoimmune condition. When i asked about the results of my scan, I was told " yeah, it looks like someone who has thyroid disease." Imagine my shock when i got a call from my pharmacy that this dr called in a diabetes drug for me. None of my labs show diabetes. Of course, no follow up with her and no answer. The drug she called in actually interferes with a med i am on which is why the pharmacist called! Whats worse is that this dr talks about her self in 3rd person! Its hard to take weight loss advice from a dr who clearly doesnt take her own advice!

Doesn’t consider the person as a whole. Doesn’t listen. Quite rude and short in response. Not concerned with overall health of patient. Will not return.

I have been seeing Dr. Mary Self for 20 years. She is an awesome doctor and always looks for the best treatment for me. She answers all questions clearly and provides me with important education as necessary. I would highly recommend her.
