Dr. Mary Ellen Shriver, DO

I don’t tell people whether they should see a certain doctor or not. That is a personal decision. I am, however, going to let you read an “assessment” of my interaction with this office. 1. Initial consultation consisted of conversation only. I explain my facial pain. Dr. says, “ you have face pain but have a mask on?’ Let’s see facial pain versus protection from deadly Covid-19 virus. Mask wins every time. Strike one – she doesn’t believe I am in pain. 2. I explain the start of the numbness and pain following a surgery I had. Dr. says, “I don’t believe they could reach that part of your brain through your nose. You came out of surgery with facial numbness and they didn’t evaluate you for an intraoperative stroke?” Accused me of being “unclear”. I wasn’t unclear to the fact you have never examined me but managed to complete a 2 page assessment using medical records. To me that borders of falsifying medical records. Strike two – she doesn’t believe I can explain what… occurred following my surgery, believes I have memory issues, and believes in creating patient assessments from old medical records. 3. Prescribed chewable generic for Tegretol. I took the medication even after experiencing severe itching. My thought process was it could be a side effect of medication. However, as I continued the medication, the itching always began within 10 minutes of chewing this medication. I itched so bad that a Pharm.D thought I may be allergic to fillers in the generic medication. Benadryl became my friend as I took it after Tegretol. I informed the Dr. of this symptom. Dr. says, “I don’t believe it is a true allergy as you don’t have a rash.” Since she has NEVER examined me, how would she know if I had a rash on my body? After weaning off Tegretol, I eventually tried Trileptal. It caused me to itch but not to the extreme of Tegretol. Best part is one of her office workers left me a snippy message concerning the medication issue. Strike three – Not willing to admit she does know all allergies for every medication she prescribes or believes a patient’s complaint. 4. Finally, the best thing that could have happened for me. I received a letter from her stating I needed to seek medical help from another neurologist. Thank you, Jesus! I was wondering how I was going to get my insurance company to send me elsewhere. Hoorah, Hoorah, Hoorah.

I have seen Dr Shriver several times for Parkinson like symptoms, neuropathy pain and its probable cause, and spinal/cervical problems. In all cases she explained my conditions and sent me for appropriate testing/imaging to better diagnose and refer me for treatment and follow-up. She has taken the time to explain things to me and why she was scheduling me for tests. I highly recommend her as a Neurologist and Physician. Her staff has also been helpful during scheduling and processing paperwork. BFR

I went to her for a SSDI exam, when i got there her staff said I had no appointment I showed them the appointment paperwork that I got form Social security and they just laughed and said they would try and work me in. Two hours after my appointment time I was sent back to see her she spent under 3 minutes with me half of witch she spent complaining about how little she got paid from social security for the exam. She showed me my file SS had sent her about me and it was big about 4 inches and she said she did not have the time to read all of that. So she asked what were my main problems and she listened for about 30 seconds stopped me and said it sounds like your problems are related to Cardiology and recommended SS to send me to a Cardiologist. when I got my denial letter from SS the judge referred to her report on me over and over, it sounded like she had wrote up a 20 page report on that 3 min. exam. My opinion she is EVIL she just cares what she can get at that moment from you!

Staff is Rude and speak to you like your an uneducated idiot... I like Dr. Shiver but wont be back because of the lack of competency her office staff has....

I haven't a clue what went haywire with the client that wrote the rotten reviews. Perhaps they came in with a chip on their holder from a previous neurologist experience. It just doesn't seen like any behavior I have ever seen in the 30 years I have been going to see Dr. Shriver. 30 years of going to the same doctor speaks volumes I believe. Every visit I have been taken to the examination room and of course over that length of time I've grown to appreciate both her staff as well as Dr. Shriver herself. I just couldn't ask for anything better!

I went to see Dr. Shriver for pain and numbness going down my leg after sitting for 3 minutes I couldn't fee my leg. This doctor took time to explain about the nerves and disc in my back and let me just say she was RIGHT on with her diagnosis. Most caring doctor and staff you can find. Don't listen to all the negative comments they are just people wanting pills. They are doctors not a pill mill.

office staff very rude, other nurse that follow or helps not sure her position is unprofessional and no bedside manners. very disappointed in the way they treated me and my illness.

Bedside manner is 100% nonexistent

Dr Shriver appears very nice face to face. But She isn't there for your wellbeing. She sits you down in her office to talk. after 12 visits I went to an exam room 1 time. that was to take a weight. That's it. So for here to submit records to a court saying that these vitals were taken each time as well as making judgments on what we discussed in terms of a diet. She didn't even spend enough time or took the time to do any tests. so How can she validate her findings? Also she stated on a court record that she evaluated me for pain???? I never went to her for a pain evaluation, it never came up in any conversations, not pain anything. I may just sound like a disgruntled patient But im not Im just totally caught off guard for what she actually did for me and what she said she did under oath. So really check on your physicians before you go and see them. and it you google her you can tell I am not the only one.

I'm not sure how this physician has a low rating? Excellent staff and physician- went above and beyond for me!
