I'm so glad I came across this review section, I thought I was the only one that was welcomed with the scare tactics. In one day he ordered all possible exams for my mother and was very arrogant when my mother hesitated to get the surgery he recommended. This is not how a Dr should talked to a patient, making them scare enough to force a surgery on them as if it is an immediate life or death situation. Patients need time and more informations before taking this major step to get operated. Although, the office staff were nice, I would rather find another surgeon that has more manners than scaring people for no good reason.

Technically skilled, sure. Bedside manner, completely absent. I feel bad for his staff.

Dr. Williams performed the TAVR procedure on my Mom one year and seven months ago. I am a Registered Nurse with 25 years experience. I agree, from other comments, that he does not have the best bedside manner, but the consultation and post procedure appt. is not a social event. As a Health Professional, I feel he must limit his time with patients due to his hectic schedule. His time is precious. He answered all pertinent medical questions and his staff was very supportive and available as well. All testing was done in one day which was important for my mother who had to travel from South Jersey into Manhattan for her appts. As far as I am concerned, my Mom was in good hands. I am grateful to him since I still have my Mom with me much longer than I would have expected. She is now 90 years old. Thank you, Dr. Williams.

I only read reviews of Dr. Matthews after I had my "clip" operation. Had I read them before my procedure I might not have allowed him to operate. However, I found his work so far to be superlative, Treatment good. Saw him briefly afterwards and am satisfied with his and Langone's treatment. I don't need a chatty Doc just a good one. And that's him SO FAR>

Was referred to Dr. Williams by my cardiologist of 15 years - visit was filled with extra tests (i.e. walking, strength and questionnaires) all I would assume are billable. Did not perform a consult but a quick drop in the room to use a scare tactic to act fast - we can do blood work today, how about a CT Scan. Left the visit in fear with with little details about how he would perform the surgery. Callin my cardiologist to ask "what were you thinking". Very disappointed.

His PA is an imbecile. I needed heart intervention to address aortic stenosis and was strongly advocating to get a minimally invasive TAVI replacement valve rather that open heart surgery. I explained above desires to Dr. Williams who replied "I decide what you get". Oh, really; [so by this doctor, the patient has no say in their treatment] I could not wait to get out of there. I sought out another surgeon who successfully performed my surgery respecting my wish for the replacement valve only. Dr. Williams' people skills/bedside manner are from hunger.

Dr Williams performed sugery on my mother and she died. Aside from meeting him on initial consultation we never got to talk with him again prior to the operation. The only communication was through his physician assistants who failed to properly give us all the important information we needed. He couldn’t even be bothered to come see us before the operation because he was “in a meeting”’. This is not quality of care and had we known some of the information prior to surgery better then perhaps we would have made some different decisions.

My 86 year old father had a fialed aortic valve replacement surgery, by Dr. Mathew Wiiliams, at the NYU Langone Tisch Hospital in New York. Although, the doctor had already checked his artery to make sure that he could do the operation, he decided instead that the artery needed to be completely cleaned of accumulated calcium, and other obstructions before surgery. Thus, a one hour operation became two and then 3 operations. One operation in the morning to clear the artery, the another operation in the afternoon to implant a defective heart valve, and then another to implant a pacemaker. Three days after his discharge from NYU Hospital, there was so much valve leakage that he started suffering near total organ failure, due to lack of blood being pumped to his organs. He was on total life support at Saint Francis Hospital on Long Island, and then stabilized after one week. However, during the week at Saint Francis, his one remaining kidney completely failed, and he was on daily dialysis.… With about 20% kidney function, he went back to NYU, where doctor Williams replaced the leaky implanted heart valve, with a new valve, and decided not to treat him with dialysis, trying to get his kidney to start working again. I believe that the lack of dialysis at NYU, in a failed attempt to restart his kidney caused irreparable damage to his brain function. Why would NYU discharge a patient with a leaky new heart valve? Also, why would the doctors at NYU decide to cease dialysis, while trying the restart his kidney function after the second heart valve replacement surgery? Now, is does not appear that he will survive.

Has a way to put you at ease,there is something that can't be explained about him,there a peace that comes into a room with him,never felt that my surgery wouldn't be sucess

I recently saw Dr. Williams for a Coronary Catheterization. Other doctors told me that I could not be catheterized, but he said he could do it. He found blockages and fixed them. I would never have been a surgical candidate.From the first time i met Dr. Williams, I felt confident he new what he was doing. I felt comfortable, that had complications occurred- that his training as a Cardio-thoracic surgeon would allow him to quickly deal with as they occured. thank god, this didnt occur.
