Dr. Mathias P Bostrom, MD

Fixed my knee when other "specialists" would not help. would only bend to 25 degrees. on month post-surgery already completely straight and bending at 92 degrees. Could not have had a better experience. This was surgery number 6. Should have gone to him years ago.

This arrogant creep did an awful job on my right hip. I am a physician and I get that not every surgery has a perfect outcome. But when he refused to investigate my pain and take my symptoms seriously, I became furious. The local doc in my home state discovered a large fluid pocket that needed draining and I needed months of extra PT. It took a toll on my health and relationships. Made me embittered toward my own profession. He was condescending and treated me like I was a whining complainer and was happy to prescibe a muscle relaxant and steroids just to get rid of me. Thankfully I am an informed patient and I was able to finally right the wrong

I have had both hips replaced and one hip revision. Another HSS doctor did the first replacement, which I broke after running 4 miles a day for 5 years. I needed bone grafting for the hip revision which Dr. Bostrom performed in 2009. I went from intense pain to perfect. Dr. Bostrom replaced my other hip in 2015. Four years later, all is well. I find Dr. Bostrom to be a good person and his staff very helpful. I find the negative reviews hard to believe.

I was recommended to go to Dr. Bostrom for two hip replacements by another doctor at HSS. I have been in severe pain to the point that walking is almost impossible. I was told by a horrible office person that I could not see him in two months though he had many appointments for not new patients available. I also was rudely told I needed an X-ray to diagnose me after having had an MRI that clearly showed hip erosion and bone on bone on both sides. I said I don't need diagnosing, that has been done already but I need an appointment as soon as possible and an Xray could be done at that point. I received a phone call from Bostrom himself and he said not to come, very nasty fellow. I did absolutely nothing to his staff, except to ask for an appointment as soon as possible and to state that I am diagnosed. I cannot imagine having surgery with this guy, I am thankful this happen beforehand.

He did surgery on one of my knees in 2014 after 3 failed surgeries by physicians in 2 other states. I have not had any problems with the knee. I found him easy to talk to. I like to be given honest answers about a situation and the potential outcomes. I am sure there are other excellent surgeons at the HSS but I feel fortunate I went to him and will be returning to see him for my other knee replacement.

Dr. Bostrom is doing extra miles in making his full asessment and dignosis for a healing plan. His words have the healing effect. With Dr. Bostrom, you wont go wrong!

He is a reasonably competent surgeon and his office staff is very good. After each if my two surgeries I would find him at the foot of my hospital bed around 6 AM, where he would offer "The surgery went well. Hang in there." Kept postponing final surgery to remove hardware from my leg. Talks very little. I had to insist. Never told me a reasonable explanation. Very strange doctor - patient relationship.

I am a physician. This guy left me with a damaged sciatic nerve after a hip replacement. Still struggling with pain and cannot walk much 4 months later. I was fit and in good shape prior to surgery-which he talked me into doing-and now I can just move around my house.

I highly recommend Dr. Bostrom. It was truly a miracle I was lucky enough to go to him. At 3am I was awake because of pain, doing a google search on the best orthopedic hospital in the US and looked at the doctor's profiles and decided I was going to call his office even though I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I had 3 arthroscopic surgeries and 3 knee replacements on the same knee and had been in constant pain since 2004. I am no longer in constant pain. He is easy to talk to and I was not rushed. He explained all the pros and cons for doing another surgery and let me make the decision. I got the impression the first time I saw him 'this man is really smart'. As far as I was concerned this was going to be my last ditch effort to fix my knee. I have overheard people talking about there pain after knee replacements. I have handed his business card to about 5 people and said 'call this doctor', it will be the best call you ever make. I have tremendous respect for him.

Dr. M. Bostrom saved my life when he operate me from one of my knees. Now I'm doing the other one. Thanks, & G'D bless you!!!!
