Dr. Austin is an orthopedic surgeon at HSS specializing in hip and knee replacement. He enjoys spending time with patients in the office so that they better understand the options available to them and their path back to an active lifestyle. Utilizing advanced surgical techniques coupled with optimized pain management, most of his patients are able to return home the same day after hip or knee replacement surgery. Prior to joining HSS, Dr. Austin was chief of the one of the world's largest and most respected hip and knee replacement and joint preservation programs, based in Philadelphia. He oversaw a division that performed more than 17,000 arthroplasty and joint preservation procedures every year and published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers each year. He also directed one of the world's premier fellowships in adult reconstruction. Dr. Austin has held editorial positions with numerous preeminent medical journals. He continues to lecture extensively across the United States and …internationally and has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles. He is a member of the prestigious Hip and Knee Societies as well as the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He serves as Vice-Chair of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Education Committee and has been a past Chair of the Evidence-based Medicine Committee. He has formerly served as Chair of the Knee Society Membership Committee.
