Dr. Meera Pukkattu Ravindranathan, MD

Dr. Meera was my first of three oncologists. I loved her. She was warm and caring and very knowledgeable. I felt comfortable in her hands. We had great conversations during my office visits, often not about cancer. I was very sad when she left the practice she had then. I would recommend her to anyone seeking help with cancer. If you read this Dr. Meera, hope all is well and keep up the good causes!! I’m the house sign woman!!

This doctor had never seen a case of the type of cancer my husband had. The Sharp system did not have any doctors with experience treating his type of cancer. However, they are contracted with UCSD who has many doctors who are very experienced with his disease. We did have consults with the doctors at UCSD and wanted to treat there. However, when my husband requested to have his cancer treatment transferred to UCSD he was denied access for treatment despite Sharp being contracted with the University. On the Sharp website it states "if they do not have a physician on staff who is qualified in treating your type of cancer they will refer out to UCSD or a qualified contracted physician in your disease." They did not honor this. This oncologist had lack of knowledge with my husband's type of cancer, appeared to have an apathetic attitude or desire to learn about the disease, did not listen to the patient's primary care giver regarding patients response to chemo, she never returned… my husbands phone calls when he was having complications, and later did not respond to my calls when he was having severe side effects of chemo, which resulted in HASTENED DEATH of my husband. The cause of death was a side effect of one of the chemotherapy agents, not the cancer which was undetectable at the time. This physician requires much more education and needs to learn to listen and respect what the patient, and patient's caregiver say regarding noted complications post chemo treatments. Had she, my husband may still be alive today. It should be noted that my husband was a Sharp physician, and I am a Registered Nurse. We knew what we were talking about. Our concerns were not respected nor listened to by this doctor.

My mother was a patient of Dr. Ravindranathan. My mom continually expressed concerns that her tumors were continuing to grow despite Chemotherapy. My mom was completely dismissed and her concerns were ignored. My mom was correct, she finally took matters into her own hands and discovered that the tumors had grown substantially. At a point where time was of the essence, Dr. Ravindranathan could not give my mom the time to take her seriously. Every one makes mistakes, I hope Dr. Ravindranathan learned from hers. Don't lose your family member because they weren't listened to, trust your instinct and do your research.
