Dr. Melissa Jeannette Welch, MD

I had a great experience with Dr. Welch. The practice had bad reviews and I almost canceled my appt but I'm glad I didn't. I was seen a few mins after I checked in, the staff was friendly, and Dr. Welch taught me so much that no other Dr had ever bothered to mention, explaining the reason for my symptoms. I did not feel rushed and she was very knowledgeable.

Dr. Welch is fantastic! She is thorough and explains medical jargon in layman's terms. The staff she works with is extraordinary. I highly recommend her and her office for anyone needing an ob/gyn!

In our first visit, Dr. Welch was brusque and nearly confrontational, pushing hormone therapy on me that I did not ask about and do not want. She seemed uninterested in getting to know me as a patient and in a great hurry to leave the exam room. She then referred me for needless, expensive follow-up testing, could not coherently answer my questions about that referral , and took over a week to respond to my primary care physician's follow-up inquiries. This was overall one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any health care provider.

In 2015 Dr. Welch referred me for a routine mammogram. It was done at backus hospital. The radiologist told me he saw to unusual areas in the same exact spot in both breasts and because of this did not feel concerned because it was highly unlikely that it was anything significant given that it was exact on both sides. He had never seen that in his many years of being a radiologist. He recommended a return in 6 months for follow-up. Dr. Welch said ABSOLUTELY NOT. She referred me for a return ct scan of breast immediately with a follow up with Dr. Kurowski. Dr. K recommended a biopsy and sure enough, I was diagnosed with metastatic right breast cancer HER-2 positive on May 5, 2015 and started chemo immediately. I was stage 1 but based on testing the cells were considered aggressive. Had it not been for Dr. Welch stepping in and saying NO WAY are you waiting 6 months I might not be here to write this review. I thank God for directing me to her practice and for His guidance through Dr.… Welch! She is thorough and totally knowledgeable!

Dr. Welch diagnosed me with uterine cancer after another Doctor told me she could not find anything wrong. Dr. Welch immediately scheduled me with an excellent specialist at Hartford Hospital who scheduled my surgery with much better results than expected. She is a blessing.

This Doctor doesn't seem to care about you and your un born child. . At appointments all she wants to do is rush you out the door. ....

Dr. Welch is a good doctor. She is thorough and answers questions well. She is also compassionate and has a great sense of humor. Each time I see her though, she seems a bit more "rushed" during the appointment. Are they scheduling her patients too close together? When I make an appointment to see Dr. Welch, I often have to wait 4-6 weeks for ANY available appointment, and I have to take that one day/time or risk waiting several more weeks. That is disappointing. The office staff can be curt to the point of rude. The nurses seem a little uneducated. One gave me incorrect medical information over the phone. Another nurse there, while reviewing my medication list with me, did not know how to pronouce "Adderall". Wow. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Welch as a gynecologist, though.

It took me forever to get thru to make an appointment number one than when I had a scheduled appointment I had to wait an extra 45 minutes. By the time I left there I was in tears! The doctor was not helpful at all with a specific question I asked and not very gentle if you get what I mean. I will be looking for a new Obgyn!

I would recommend Dr Welch to anyone. She is very nice and makes her patience feel comfortable. I am pregnant with my second and I feel very blessed to have such a caring doctor.

Dr. Welch has delivered two of my three children and being that my husband and I want five or more, I can only hope she delivers the rest. My middle daughter was born within 1 hour of arriving at the hospital. I was in active labor and scared to death. I wanted the epidural but Dr. welch explained there was no time. She encouraged me a d told me I would be fine. I was! She was excellent during the delivery, very professional and joked with me after. My third child, a girl, was born a month ago. I went into labor a d it was active almost immediately. I called dr. Welch and although it was 430 in their ing she was alert a d understood the importance. Needless to say my water broke in the elevator abd my daughter was born 2 minutes later. Dr. Welch was great!!! She laughed and joked with me and madee feel better about the fact that my husband has missed the birth. We both adore her and can't imagine anyone having anything but a great experience!
