Dr. Meriam Pacana Izon, MD

Dr. Izon was dismissive and reacted poorly when I asked questions or challenged her initial conclusions. At my first visit, she was certain I had thyroid issues. I explained my symptoms also matched Type 1 diabetes and asked her to order the necessary labs to both confirm her theory and rule out mine. She became flippant and irritated but eventually ordered the tests. The results showed my thyroid was fine — but I was, in fact, a new-onset Type 1 diabetic. Instead of calling me herself to discuss such a life-changing diagnosis, she had office staff relay the news. There was no follow-up, no education on insulin use, and no guidance on managing the condition. I had to research on my own how to start insulin injections. Type 1 diabetes is a serious and complex disease that requires careful support, especially at diagnosis. In my experience, Dr. Izon did not provide that care. If you choose her as your endocrinologist, be prepared to manage the condition alone.

I had a horrible and dangerous experience with this office. I saw Dr. Izon while pregnant and was prescribed medication for my thyroid. After taking this medication for several days, I began feeling sick and checked the prescription to find that they prescribed 10x the dose that they were supposed to. I was only able to get through to Dr. Izon’s assistant who told me it was correct and ended the call. I checked the aftercare notes that confirmed they’d prescribed the wrong dosage and I called back. She admitted she was the one who called it in wrong, but no apology. She was snide and flippant while I apologized for crying and I tried to get answers about what this could do to my unborn baby. This woman simply said my baby would be fine and wouldn’t explain any further. I requested a call from Dr. Izon ASAP and that call never came. Weeks passed and I finally called and asked to meet with the manager for that medical office. A man called saying he was filling in for the manager who… was out. He was glib and went on about how Dr. Izon’s assistant is actually really nice. He made no attempt to get me the answers I needed about the health repercussions of this. I doubt he even put this on file because I was never contacted again. I was referred to a different doctor at my request. Disclaimer that this was in 2019. I tried to put this behind me and focus on my already high risk pregnancy, but my husband and I are still so upset about this and felt a responsibility to get this information out there somewhere. Their total disregard could endanger other patients, many of them elderly, at risk, and not strong advocates for themselves.

Dr. Izon was one of the most terse harsh insensitive doctors I've been to. While she may be highly educated and very intelligent, she has very poor sensitivity with patients. I felt unheard at my appointment. She seemed to have her mind made up about my medical concerns before I ever entered the exam room. Further, it was almost an hour past my scheduled time before I saw her. She sure didn't care about questions I had. I had done some research about my health issues and she indicated my research was worthless. She is arrogant and head strong. It felt as if her opinion was the only one that mattered. I certainly walked out of the appointment feeling as if I don't matter. I will NEVER go to her again.

She does not have any interest in interacting with me as her patient. She had her nurse give me a printed out food chart & said come back if you have any questions. I’ll never go back!

When I entrust any doctor with making decisions regarding my healthcare, I want to have a positive feeling from my interactions with them and a fairly good level of trust in their judgement. At my appointment she came across as very cold, unfriendly and dismissive. After waiting 2 months for my appointment and describing my symptoms, she spoke to me in a very condescending manner. She said unfortunately she didn't think she could do anything to help me. I felt belittled, disbelieved and discouraged. She did however reluctantly run some labs and when results came back, there WAS INDEED a problem that showed up and I did recieve new diagnosis. Why would you discourage a patient by saying you doubt there is anything you can do to help them before even running labs?? Rush to judgement much? Dr. Izon is not, in my humble opinion, what you would consider a 'people person' based on my experience with her. Maybe she has spent too much time studying medical books over the years… and not enough time building social skills and learning how to pleasantly interact with others. I called to ask a follow up question and someone who answered mentioned one of her nurses had just up and quit that day so things were chaotic in the office. If she treats her employees anything like she treats her patients, honestly I'm not surprised a nurse would just walk off the job. I did get a new diagnosis so my appointment was not a total waste, but if I could do it again I would have waited a little longer to get in to see a doctor who had better reviews. I wanted to get in to see a specialist as soon as possible so I disregarded some of the not so great reviews simply because I could get an appt sooner with her. I could have gotten the same diagnosis from someone else and had a more pleasant experience. Find an endo with more positive reviews and you might have a more positive experience.

I was a patient of Dr. Izon for well over 10 years. I had a bad bottle of medication and was in an emergent situation. I called her so she could call in a prescription and she yelled at me. My alternative was going to the ER. A week later I received a letter stating tha I rescheduled more than three appointments and was no longer welcome as a patient. Remember, I was seeing her for approx. 11-12 years at the time.

Actually tries to figure out your diabetes issues and will change meds and insulin dosage to reduce sugar levels with the minimum of insulin.

I found Dr Izon to be the worst doctor I have ever seen. She is very rude, and does not listen to what I say.

My husband has seen Dr Izon for several health issues he has. She has been extremely thorough and caring. Thank you for your care!

Didn't feel that she listen to me at all :(. I have something going on with my body. She didn't seem to care and not that doc do anymore. Thanks for nothing! As I'm sure after YEARS of feeling so sick. I have a thyroid problem and you missed it and mad me feel like I was crazy. Thanks again for nothing
