Dr. Michael Berard, MD

I found Dr. Berard a thorough and very informative doctor. I've made him my primary care physician.

I use to think Dr. Berard was a good doctor. That changed one visit when I informed him I would be having surgery. He asked where and when I told him he strongly suggested a different hospital. I told him I already had my surgeon and would stay with him. Four different times during that visit he kept pushing the hospital he wanted me to go to even though he is not affiliated with it. After that the doctor-patient relationship felt like it had became adversarial. I now feel like I'm not suppose to have any input into my care and definitely feel like I'm not to question it.

Had it not been for Dr. Berard, I don't know if I would be able to write this review today. I became his patient when my former Doctor retired. I made an appointment with him one Winter thinking I had the "flu". He knew instantly that it was not the Flu. After reading results from a blood test and CT Scan, he diagnosed me correctly saying I would need "3 more doctors;" I needed immediate surgery for Cancer but because I was severely anemic I had to have 4 iron infusions before surgery. Dr. Berard has a pleasing personality, is very patient and listens carefully to everything his patient says. Today I have recovered, am Cancer free and enjoying life once again. I am so gratefully that he pointed me in the right direction. Also, I went to Sibley Hospital in NW which I highly recommend very clean, their motto: "Patients First"; and they practice Johns Hopkins Medicine. Surgery a Breeze.

He is kind and compassionate, and spends real time with each patient.

I had been going to Dr. Berard for over ten years, until I relocated to another city. He is the best physician I ever consulted, and, in fact, he saved my life by diagnosing a potential heart attack before it could happen, and referred me to an excellent cardiologist. He is most understanding, careful in diagnosis, and spends time with patients. I only wish I were again living in College Park so that I could continue with Dr. Berard.

I have been a patient of Dr Beratd's for many years. Although once in the office, the wait time can be long, I know this and bring a book to read. I think he is an excellent doctor , well worth the wait.

Dr Berard's office is like an old-fashioned office. He may keep you waiting but that is only because he is spending quality time with the patient in front of you. He might keep the person behind you waiting since he is diligently assessing your situation. Very personable, insightful and dedicated. Highly recommend.

My entire family switched from another MD, who had a totally incompetent office staff, afew months ago. Althoughy daughters and I have seen the two NP, and not DR. Berard, they were thourogh and took as much time as we felt we needed. My husband has seen Dr. Berard and was very pleased. Office staff,who I had heard were rude, have never been anything other than pleasant whether on the phone or in person.

Iknow more about treating systoms than this doctor. He tells me to do what I've already been doing. Then he calls and insults me and says if you are still having the problem to come back in. It's been over a month. I have the knowledge to do what he told me to do and had been doing for month. He really needs to go back to medical school and learn or even listen to the person instead of just having his mind made up before his diagnosis.

I had changed doctors because of insurance and chose Dr. Michael Berard. I had an appt. scheduled for about a month after I initially called. About a week later I called his office asking to be seen ASAP because of a bad earache. I was told they had no thing available and to come in on the original appt. date. I asked to be called if there was a cancellation so that I could be seen earlier. That weekend I ended up in the emergency room, where I was diagnosed with an ear infection. After 5 days on antibiotics I was still no better. I called Dr Berards office again and again asked to be seen ASAP because I was still in so much pain. Again I was told they had no open appts. I ended going to a walk-in clinic and was put on different antibiotics for an ear infection. After a few days on the new antibiotics things were still no better, so again called Dr Berard's office and tried to explain to them that I really needed to see the doctorASAP. Was again told to wait for my appt date ( which… was in a few days )to come in. When my appt date finally came I was seen by a nurse practioner and again told that it was just an ear infection and was put on more antibiotics. The NP said to call back in a few days if things weren't better. After 5 days there was no improvement and went back to Dr Berards office and saw the NP again. Again more antibiotics. And was to l to come back in a week for follow up. Two days later I woke up totally deaf in one ear and only partial hearing in the other. Also had severe vertigo. I call Dr Berards office and they said to come in at 1:00pm and would have to wait to see the Dr when he became available. About an hour and a half later I was put in an examining room and waited about 10 minutes for Dr Berard to come in. He took one look in my ear and said that I had an inner ear infection and he referred me to an ENT. I believe that had I seen Dr. Berard for my first visit that I would still have my hearing and be free of vertigo. I have never seen a NP on my very first visit to a new Dr. I would never refer anyone to Dr Berard after my experience with his staff and his lack of professionalism.
