Dr. Michael Garcia, MD

My Dr. Retired and I was not really impressed with the new doctor. He was not mean but not very friendly.

I appreciated Dr. Garcia's calm bedside manner. He took the time to discuss the on-site ultrasound in detail with me. He was also a good listener.

Excellent thyroid doctor. I couldn't ask for a nicer more knowledgeable doctor.

I would not recommend Dr. Garcia to any patient. I had the right side of my thyroid removed due to an atypical biopsy result. When following up with Dr. Garcia, the pathology report indicated that I had thyroid cancer. Dr. Garcia was very insensitive and unprofessional in his conduct during this appointment. He told me that if my surgeon had me wait a few months to remove the rest of the thyroid I "shouldn't have a cow about it". I was so shocked that I couldn't quite articulate a response. I guess I shouldn't "have a cow" about the fact that Dr. Garcia only goes on blood work and feeling one's neck almost exclusively to determine if one's thyroid has changed in size? He was wrong about that, too. If my primary care physician had not been so thorough, having conducted an ultrasound out of his office and having conducted a nuclear thyroid scan, I would still have my thyroid which contained a 2.5 cm malignancy. Even after I had the results of these two tests, Dr. Garcia felt my neck and… told me my thyroid hadn't changed. After telling him that my tests said differently and that I was directed to have another biopsy, I, also, told him that my primary care physician would ensure this happened if Dr. Garcia refused. Dr. Garcia relented and did an ultrasound which showed that my nodule had increased in size. He, then, did the biopsy which came back with atypical cells. I should, also, note that during my follow up appointment to my first thyroid surgery, after Dr. Garcia told me I had thyroid cancer, he was talking to me, and in mid sentence he stopped and asked me what my name was...do not go to this doctor!!!!

Dr. Garcia is absolutely clueless about thyroid conditions. He follows the old school approach of cutting your thyroid out, putting the patient trough Radioactive Iodine (without disclosing any of the possible negative side effects- and is clueless about the fact that it will and can cause horrible nausea) and will only prescribe Synthroid. He laughs at Natural Dessicated Thyroid meds, and has absolutely no clue about the many issues a patient can confront once you loose your thyroid. Honestly, he seemed nice but when the research I conducted (from peer-reviewed medical journals and other references) contradicted much of what he was telling me, I am glad I found a new doctor to treat me. He should either retire, or start educating himself if he is going to continue to treat thyroid patients. Starting with Stop The Thyroid Madness would be a great start for him, and any patient reading this. If you are considering going to Dr. Garcia, I would keep looking as he really is… completely out of touch.

Dr. Michael Garcia is one of the most arrogant and insensitive doctors I have unfortunately come across. He treated my thyroid disease and had little to no compassion for my side effects. I asked to come back for labs after he ablated my thyroid with radiation and would not let me come back for labs until I was in such a hypo state that I was almost in a coma. He clearly must work with diabetes cases and not understand how the thyroid works as months after my radiation my labs were seriously out of range and he told me I shouldn't be having any symptoms?? He also was very insulting when he offerred up "don't blame your weight gain on your thyroid either". I have never met such an unprofessional person in my life and God have mercy on any patient that becomes his victim.

WEnt to the Dr about some nodules. He ultrasounded them and told me that he wasn't sure about them. Took some blood work which took more than 2 weeks to get the results. I now go to another Dr. I felt he kind of fluffed the issues.

I went to Dr. Garcia because my I am having every single issue I had 10 years ago when I was originally diagnosed as hypothyroid, and I was found to have calcified nodules. It seems that Dr. Garcia was once an excellent Endocrinologist, but now he is riding on his reputation. He told me that there was no genetic link in Thyroid problems. Excuse me? Both sides of my family have it and there is no genetic link? He didn't do a proper exam (I know, I have been hypothyroid for 10 years!!) and told me he had no idea why my hair was falling out and what my neck pain/hoarse voice was from. He seems to listen, but I felt he made up his mind and stopped listening mid-way through the appointment.

The first endocrinologist I saw to biopsy my nodule had no bedside manner. That was my last appt with him. After searching for a new doctor Dr. Garcia came highly recommended so I met with him. Great man and great doctor. Answered all my questions and was a pleasure. I felt like a person, not a case. Needless to say, he is now my endocrinologist.

I was lucky to find Dr. Garcia. He has been a godsend in treating my thyroid nodules and some of the issues that have arisen during the 7 years I have been his patient.
